Win2k problem

My windows 2k partiotino is kinda screwed up, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.
Basically, before I ca type in username/password to log in, i get an error that basically says "A device connected to this machine is not functioning. Reboot into safe mode and check the error log for more information"
Of coarse safe mode gives the same error.
I need some of the data off this NTFS partition, so any ideas of how to get the data off would be nice too.
I think i screwed it up by overclocking too high, but even at stock voltage/multiplyer it gives the error.

You know your OS is secure when it won't let you recover any data after it gets blown away.

Try booting off the Win2K install CD and run a repair.

It that don't work you can use a second hard disk to install Windows. Hook up your old hard disk (with win 2K on it) as slave and copy the data you need off it.

For some reason, it wasnt booting off the CD when i had it in the drive, and the CD drive to boot first.
not sure why, does it not have a bootup like the win98 one?
Anyways, anyone eles have any idea what that error might mean?

Yep, I am unable to boot from the CD of win 2k also. I don't know why, its not like win 98.
I had a similar problem with my old win 2k advanced server version... when it went all screwed (I removed too many services) it wasn't able to boot anymore. I did a recovery in the setup program but it was always doing some errors, rebooting, doing errors again, rebooting and doing errors again. So I instaled win 98 and now I am about to install win 2k again ! LOL hehe
