win2k program installation

hey,
i decided to switch over and use power-user, but whenever i try installing any type of program, it asks me if i want to use administrator?

do i always have to install as administrator?

You can only install Win2K-certified apps as a Power User.

Actually, it's more dependent on the installer (and app being installed) than anything.

In general, the best bet is probably to log on as administrator to install apps. That'll give you the fewest headaches.

I just tried installing my Handspring as admin, and now it doesn't show up under power user. Any ideas?

Yes., the installer placed a shortcut in the Administrator Start Menu only. Go back into the administrator account and drill down through Documents and Settings until you get to the Startup section in the Start Menu for the Administrator. Copy that shortcut to either All Users or just your account, whichever you prefer.

Now right click on the folder containing the [/b]destination[/b] for the shortcut that you just copied and selct Properties, then Security. On the Security tab select Advanced then check the box labeled &quot;Reset permissions on all child objcts....&quot;. Now click the okay button.

Log back into your other account and you should be ready to go.
