what's good in it that is useful? isn't it true that SP2 would only serve to slow down the OS even more as more stuff is added? any benefits vs. nonbenefits to moving to SP2?

If you have a Via 686 southbridge, definitely get SP2. It fixes some problems with the AGP bus or something like that (better, stabler, faster graphics)

Yesterday I reformatted my PC, and found that right after boot, if I open the start menu, then the control panel, it would take 15-20 seconds before it opened. The system taskbar would be frozen for that time, but My computer still worked. Upgrading to SP2 fixed this; I think a file that was installed during win2k setup was corrupted when it went to my HDD. SP2 updates the system files, and it doesn't seem to slow the system at all. If you don't mind downloading 15mb, by all means, SP2 is worthwhile.

My advice would be to see if you need anything in the update and check to make sure it won't affect anything you currently run. SP2 for the most part has not caused any major problems in most cases, but there are some instances where software was broken after installing.

It also give full support for ATA 100, for whatever that's worth. It's worth having.

Just run the express installer for SP2, it'll only install the updates your system needs.

By defualt the SP will backup all the files involved, so if u're dissatisfied with the performance, just undo the SP

I have a 686B mobo and SP2 does major damage and slowdown to my system.

My advice: Stay the hell away from SP2 and d/l the VIA 4-in-1s.

i take it you then uninstalled sp2? if so, did this undo all the damage? just curious as to how good the uninstall process is, as I just recently installed sp2 (after holding out for months). so far my system is the same, like I don't notice any difference at all, but it would be nice to know how reversible SP2 is.

sp2 also fixes security holes... don't stay away from sp2, just install it and then install the 4-1's again.

I installed Service Pack 2 but I haven't installed the 4in1's again. It's best to install them again? Won't something bad happen because I installed them earlier already?

SP2 doesn't add any more features, only bugfixes. Therefore, it won't slow down your system.

As others have suggested, check to see if any of the updates matter to you and install SP2 if they do.

mmm...well i cant speak alot about the speed of all applications after adding sp2 but it did make 3d apps faster on my system

I am running service pack 2 with windows 2000. And I am experiencing no slow downs all. As for stabilty its the same if not better.
