Deploying it already? Shouldn't you be testing in a lab before you do that. I ALWAYS test any patch from any company in a lab before deploying it.

I would love to, but we are a small company and the "lab" is my office.

If it causes any problems I'll take it off - may be a bit risky, but oh well. We don't have many problems here usually, and if we get any, it will give me something to do.

That's the spirit. I've installed in on a newly installed SP3 Win2k Server, and no problems so far.

Installed, no problems noted but it did change my services config. Had to check them all and turn off a few items again. Memory use is up a bit after a cold boot. Haven't decided just where that is coming from as yet.

Ive tried installing it again .....same problems!!! But for some reason I have a hotfix installed on my system too that says "SP5"

I wonder if I uninstalled all the hotfixes and then install SP4 if itll work?

The problem is like DNS quits working somehow.

It's worth a shot, that update does have to do with the networking. If you didnt already know it says "SP5" because it was released after they had finalized the list of updates that would be rolled into SP4.

There's no way I'm going to install SP4 without first Ghosting my SP3 partition. When I first installed SP3, it screwed up my machine royally and I had to restore my SP2 until I did a complete reformat/reinstall a few months later. For one thing I had double to triple boot times and my VPN software (critical for my work) would not work.

funny...I went to Device Manager and changed the transmit threshold to a lower value for my NIC and the connections are back...

I am having the exact same problem...so you aren't going crazy. I have and RCA cablemodem and a Dlink DFE-530 TX+ ethernet card, and I can not get the signal from my cablemodem to my computer. This has happened to me in the past but reusing my installation cd that came witht the cable service fixed the problem.

Of course now when I run the installation CD the app hangs every time. Go figure. And stupid me didn't save the backup files when I installed SP4...I'm stoopid. Now I can't uninstall it. Unless I can get some help from the cable ISP tech support I am in for a long weekend of reinstalling Win 2k and numerous apps

Of course the idiots at the cable ISP ignored my 1st email because I mentioned in passing that I had the cable modem hooked up to a wireless router. They don't support wireless routers. Idiots. So I had to resend the email dropping the mention of the wireless router in order to get to a point of any feedback. I couldn't even write the email without the wireless router and my notebook...the connection still works great through the wireless card...Go figure...

Totally uninstalled McAfee and it works now. @*#@. It wouldnt' even work if I had disabled it and turned it off totally before. I guess even having it installed locks out some services from accessing the internet in SP4 somehow.
