Win2K start up problem

A few weeks ago I got a 80g WD hard drive and installed Win2k on it along with WinMe. Everything has been running fine for at least two weeks. Last week I went out of town for six days. I shut down my computer before I left. When I got back home a couple days ago I went to start my computer up and in Win2k it gets almost all the way though the start up and then the screen turns blue for only a split second and reboots. The screen turns blue then restarts so fast I can't read what it says, but if I let it go it just keeps restarting and restarting. I can boot up into WinMe just fine though. Like I said it was working fine about a week ago before I left and it wasn't touched. I didn't have anything installed accept for my Virus Scan, Zone Alarm, Adaware, a couple of games, and winamp5.0. Can anyone help me out on a fix?

Try "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if it helps?

run a full virus scan, then boot from 2000 start up disks and run repair.

Tried Last known good config and still it happens. I also tried starting in safe mode and it does the same thing. I also started up in WinMe and uninstalled the few progrms I had on there. Still the same thing. I scanned the drive for viruses when I was in WinMe and get no virus detected. I'll try the repair for the 2000 cd, haven't tried that yet.

If "Last Known good..." didn't work, and safe mode didn't work you will most likely have to reinstall Win2000. You can try the Repair installation, but I don't usually have a lot of success with repair installs of 2000. My guess is that you'll have to fully reinstall Win2000.

My Win2k had a similar problem last week and I ended up picking up XP from a friend. One thing I dont understand is when I reformatted the HD and then installed XP upon startup it asks if I want to start Win2000 or WinXP even though 2000 isnt installed anymore. How can I make it boot XP without asking?

You are getting a reboot at the moment services are beginning to load. It's a boot service or you wouldn't get the problem in safemode.
Couple things:
First, try swapping your registry's system hive.
Boot to recovery console, run a chkdsk.
next, navigate to winnt\system\config and rename system to system.bad
navigate to winnt\repair\regback and copy system from there to the above location. If you don't have a regback folder (might be fvcked) use the copy sitting in repair instead.
Reboot.
If that doesn't work goto recovery console, put your system hive back in place (delete system then rename system.bad to the original name)
Reboot and run a repair from your CD.
