***WIN2K Stopped HD's !!! Help !!!!!!***

Ok, I was running 98SE on my Asus A7V, which has an integrated Promise IDE ATA100 controller... I have 2 HD, one on each ATA Bus, and a CDROM and a CDR that are on the 2 IDE Channels. This all worked good until I tried to go to Win2K. I heard there were problems with the ATA100 under win2k, but that it would work as long as you had the latest drivers and bios's which I updated. After 2K rebooted my system to install, it says it cant find any HD's to install too... So I gave up on 2K for now,

However, now I cant boot up unless I have a Win2K cd in my drive and then it asks whether or not to go to Windows98 or to 2000 setup, how do I get rid of this? If I dont have the cd in the drive I get an invalid disk error. Man it sux, help me please if you know... or know how to get an A7V to work with it.

The problem is that 2k isnt seeing the diskes on the raid controller. You need to load the drivers for the raid controller when 2k setup starts (when it prompts you if you have additional devices).

Yeah I did that, had them on a floppy and everything, it said it had loaded promise controllers for Windows2000, but then when win 2k says.. Startin Windows2000, and boots into the blue loader screen, it gives a stop error, says error accessing drive. and I should check for viruses etc...

Limey, I really don't have anything to add to castellan's post but I do want to say that I have been running W2K on my A7V for three months now without any problems whatsoever. I have 2 drives on promise controller. IBM 30 gig as master WD 20 gig as slave on primary cable.

The first time I installed 2000 I put drives on the ata66 and installed both os's. and installed the drivers for the promise controller then changed ribbon to the promise controller. This worked fine for me. I just done a reinstall a month ago and did like castellan said and worked that way also.

The only thing I can think of right now is you installed the latest bios it has an option to turn off the promise controller. make sure it is on.

So I should move my drives to the IDE cables and install, then move them back? Is that what you're saying?

It worked for me. Just make sure you install the promise drivers before you switch it back.

I just bought one of these boards, and when i was readin thru the manual, it said to install the stuff to make the ata100 controller work, maybe when u installed 2000, somethin got jacked up on those drivers that operate the ata100 controllers? I dont know tho, juss a shot in the dark....
