Win2K & WinXP Networking

I have a LAN with a Windows 2000 (dual boot) and a Windows XP machine. The problem is, I can't seem to get either computer to transfer files to eachother.

I log on as Admin for both systems (I assume I should have proper authority).

Win2K box: \\gollum & \\smeagol
WinXP Box: \\chickenwing

When I get on the Win2K box (\\gollum or \\smeagol) and try to access the WinXP box (\\chickenwing), it prompts me for the username/password. I use the same one that I use to log on when I'm physically logging onto the WinXP box and it displays this message:
"Incorrect password or unknow username for..."

From the Win2K box, I can access \\gollum (while logged into \\gollum) and \\smeagol (while logged into \\smeagol).

The "Users and Passwords" display box is identical on both \\gollum and \\smeagol. The checkbox for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" is not checked.

When I get on the WinXP box and try to access \\gollum (Win2K box), I get the following message:
"\\gollum is not accessable. You might not have the permission to use the network resources. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions".

However, when I get on the WinXP box and try to access \\smeagol (Win2K box), it lets me in.

From the WinXP box, I can access: \\chickenwing

Both machines have identical network cards (Linksys LNE100TX). They both connect to a switch (D-Link DSS-16+).

Any Suggestions?

not sure about win 2000...but on the XP box it sounds like you don't have Simple File Sharing enabled....when you enable it it shouldn't prompt for user/pw anymore

Check the Permissions on "chickenwing" by right clicking on the share(s) and select the Sharing and Security. Click on the Sharing tab and make sure to look under the Permissions tab. Most of the time "Everyone" is listed with read access only, but not always.
