Just put together a new system (my first). (Epox 8k7a, T-bird 1.33). Loaded W2k pro just fine, and I was loading some other software (MBM5) and windows locked up (after "restart&quot. Couldn't get any kind of response on keyboard, or off switch, so I had to uplug. Now W2k locks on the "starting windows" screen. Any suggestions for the newbie would be appreciated. Thanks.

hmm,, can you get into safe mode??..

try that..

if worst comes to worse (is that how it goes).. and you have to re-format again.. just install the bare things, i.e. Mobo, Video, CPU,ram.. and just install things one at at time.. and pick out the problems as they occur.. keeping working at it.. you will really like 2k once you get it fixd up.. good luck

Thanks for the ideas. I can't get into safe mode, screen just locks up and F8 doesn't do a thing.

Did you install any hardware or just software?

I added no new hardware just before lock up. I've done a profile of my rig, but I'm not sure how to set up a shortcut here. If I need to start from scratch, what's the best way to do that?

Ok its easy to fix if you made an Emergency Repair Disk.

If all you installed was mobo monitor you may still be able to repair it.

Boot from the Windows 2k CD select repair when prompted then select the option for repair installation

It will ask you about ERD if you dont have it you should be able to let it attempt to repair itself without the disk Its worth a shot....

I'm booting from the W2K CD, when I go to repair windows installation ("press R&quot, I'm asked if to repair by using recovery console or emergency repair process. I assume it's recovery console since I don't have ERD. When I get to next screen I'm asked which Windows 2000 installation I'd like to log onto. I don't have a clue. Can anybody help? Thanks.
