Win7: What system files to move to my 32gig SSD?

i have an old 32gig SATA II ssd that I was toying with under WinXP.

Since I upgraded to Win7 on my AMD X4 Phenom II 960T, the ssd collected dust.

Then a thought came to me:
use it as my D drive and install commonly used programs/files on there.

so I moved the pagefile (6gig permanent), Avira Antivirus, and Chrome to the ssd.

I have 23gig free.

what other system files to move there?
Hibernation file? I frequently use the Sleep button for my desktop.
If so, how to reassign to D drive?

Any others?

I think that is backwards. I would just reinstall Windows 7 to the SSD (and throw personal files on a flash drive then format the HDD, and then put the personal files back on the HDD)... if I'm understanding the question correctly.

Can't move hibernation file anywhere from C: . Pagefile on ssd is not a good idea: too many writes reduce ssd life - unless you really don't care about the ssd. I would store some larger programs.

Tired that on my netbook. (64gig microSD in the laptop's built in card reader for programs/data.)

win7 pro 64bit, all windows updates, 6gig page file and Avira = 7gig free.
cutting it a bit close for my comfort for my desktop.

besides, I don't want to spend the time/effort needed to reinstall.
(and I scraped the idea for my laptop.)

nope, don't care about it. it was a neat gizmo during the WinXP days.

now just want to maximize it's use w/as little effort as possible.

wow.. computer responsiveness is sooooooooooo much better after I moved the page file and Antivirus to the ssd.

the antivirus will sometimes have 1+ meg/sec disk i/o.

in the past, computer will slug along when I have multiple things open while the hd thrashes.

Are you sure you need a 6 gig page file? My understanding is that if you have memory over 4 Gb, page files won't be needed unless that excess memory is being used for a RAM disk., because the pagefile is needed for when the system runs out of physical memory. In the time of XP - memory was more expensive, and motherboards, and XP, limited RAM to 3 Gb. Nowadays, people buy sticks starting at 4 Gb.

I have a ssd, and all the suggestions I have seen, including from the maker of my SSD (Samsung) is if you have over 4 Gb RAM, you need a page file up to 1 Gb (because of old software applications for the higher side). I assume that with your quad-core, you have 8 Gb ram or more. I think you should be able to free up 5 gigs. In fact, Samsung has software to automatically set your windows for a SSD disk, and it will set the pagefile from 200mb to 1024 mb. Are you really maxing out your memory on the Task Manager Performance tab for Commit (MB)? This suggestion and settings isn't because of read/writes, but to maximize space on small SSD's.

A SSD randomly (or distributes) the data. So 7 Gb will be 7 Gb, not like if the remaining Gb were on the inside of a hard drive platter (remember to never defrag a SSD). Unless you need room for provisioning 7G shoul dbe a lot of space for a slim system. I think provisioning room is about 6-10%, and depending on the SSD controller, its has to be free space, or portioned off.

Mine default to 753MB/512MB and 1533MB/1024MB pagefile to RAM ratio.
