My colleague bought his kids brand-new laptops on BF. They run Win8 of course. He brought them home only to discover some sort of "incompatibility" with his home Verizon FIOS router. It can't connect to the router. All other devices in the house running Win7/XP/iOS, etc. have zero problems. (Googling the error yields quite a few similar error discussion threads with Win8.) MS must be really smart to put an OS out there that doesn't play nice with Verizon routers. Are they trying to kick more business to Verizon? Or just router manufacturers? Or both? I am sure we will get to the bottom of an easy solution but most people don't have the patience to work through such a problem with a BRAND NEW laptop.

Anyway, he brought one of the new laptops to work yesterday to see if I could help troubleshoot. After barely 10 minutes with it, I was so frustrated with it that I was about ready to slit my wrists, stab out my eyes, jump off a bridge, and hang myself while swallowing poison pills.

What is MS thinking? It's a dumbed-down OS designed for children! Now the laptop I was using does not have a touchscreen but still. The four corners BS is just BS!!! All kidding aside, my jaw was on the floor as I was tearing my hair out at the idiocy of it all.

I keep hearing this word "dumbed down" but the fact is it happened decades ago remember DOS and how Windows(dumbed down) replaced it back then, personally I can use Win8 just fine on my desktop and laptop, using Netgear router/modem myself with one wired and rest wireless ie 9 or devices hooked up ie 2x Win7, 2x Win8,Ubuntu ,Android tablet,Android Smartphone, iphone, (my brothers) Sony bluray all working fine, btw had it all working on an Asus modem/router as well until a nice power cut killed my modem/router .

Basically I spent a few days learning how Win8 works (on both my desktop and laptop)and got it like I use my ex-Win7 desktop without using a third party Start Menu,I even adapted to Metro(got my own columns, removed ones I don't need,ie made My games,My Win8 software etc..) basically all my programs within one or two clicks max regardless of if I'm on Metro or Desktop.

I can understand people not liking how it looks(no OS is perfect) but its not hard to use or configure,I feel people blow those issues out of proportion, btw I don't have a touch screen either just a desktop/gamer using good old mouse and keyboard.

Remember average consumer wants things easy and simple,we are considered advanced here at AT forums, remember what I said Windows was dumbed down decades ago, however saying all that you can do everything in Win8 like you did in Win7.

I'm getting bored with Win8 now its rock stable and so easy to use lol bring on Win9 I want something new to play with .

What an extremely powerful quote. Which also means you're one of three types of people.

1. Tried Windows 8 and disagree (Can't quite put your finger on it, so a quote will suffice)
2. Haven't tried Windows 8 and have just jumped on the anti W8 bandwagon (like the majority of the internet community - a single day doesn't count as "tried").
3. Think that posting a quote from a dead intellectual gives your words power (Their not your words ).

I run windows 8 on 4 PCs in my home. 2 laptops 1 netbook and my desktop. All can connect to my Verizon router/modem fine.

3 wrong assumptions there but please do keep trying.

Win8 is better than Win7 for anyone with at least average IQ. There's nothing not to like

Windows 7 is better than windows 8 unless you are a 5 year old who enjoys using a fisher price OS.

See i can be a condescending POS as well

How about no one is a condescending POS?

Do yourself a favor, instead of dismissing it in the first 5 minutes, actually use it and give it a fair chance for an hour. You'll notice the differences really aren't that big and productivity is exactly the same.
Yeah, there should've been a UI option and the way the apps work on a desktop system is pretty awkward. But these hate-threads are way over the top.
Before I installed it, all the hate convinced me I was going to have use start8 or something similar. But after a day I didn't even care anymore, why bother, it works fine.

Wow, what a concept. So, you're saying instead of listening to all the naysayers and whiners, actually try using the OS long enough to form an informed opinion? Heresy!

Sarcasm aside, I used Win8 for a week, and went back to Win7. I didn't hate Win8, but didn't love it either. It's there if I change my mind, and I well may.
