I have to use AOL for dial-up when I visit home so I keep a copy on my ThinkPad. Just went from 8.0 to 9.0. First time ever that the newer version loaded faster. I think they may finally be getting some of the software together. Or at least less amazingly craptastic.

I like my hotkeys in Winamp 2 too much. Playing games and still have full mp3 control on my keypad without looking. Can't beat that. I can't believe so many people whine about the "song gaps". yawn.

Supposedly 'gold' will be out before months end.

Winamp 5 + Modern Skin and a certain check box in the skin settings gives you a leet popup in the bottom right corner (like MSN) which shows the track name when a new one starts playing. leet.

It also has the system tray buttons.. which was a thirdparty plugin before.. though I just use winshade so both of those previous features are nullified..

beta is also different from 'RC' which the most recent version is.

Wow. I hated 3 but 5 rocks. MSN/DeadAIM-style popups when you pause or change tracks, universal hotkeys, media library. Awesome!!

Yes. The plugin architecture is the same as with Winamp 2 (but that means that "components" for Winamp3 won't work).

Edit - I read it'll play WMP files already. Didn't think M$ would allow that.
