My personal rips are Lame-encoded VBR. It's damn hard telling them apart from CD.

All of my MP3's are Lame-encoded VBR as well. With my headphones, Sennheiser T80(wireless) my music sounds great in Winamp5. I did notice the popping and a slight buzz, but I turned on the Hardware Acceleration as well, and it they are gone. This is on a Philips PSC705 Seismic Edge 5.1 Card

On my HTPC, I use a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz matched up with a Harmon Kardon AVR325 and some Acoustic Research Speakers, lemme tell you everyone always comments on how clean, crisp, and clear my music has sounded. This was using Foobar and Kernel Streaming. So far as I have been using Winamp5, I honestly cannot tell a difference in the sound.

All in all I give Winamp5 two giant thumbs up!

 its 5:35AM...im goin to bed!

Well, if you really care about your sound quality that much, try using foobar2000 + Kernel Streaming...

If you really cared about sound Q you wouldn't be listening to crappy compressed 16 bit streams in the first place...

-96 dB noise floor? Oh the horror!

Cheers!

I was lucky enough to have just such a set of headphones basically fall into my lap. A few years ago when my mother hit a smll lottery (~$5000) she went on a little shopping spree, which included a trip to HiFi House (not sure if they're still in business.. small audio shop in Harrisburg, PA.)

Anyway, I ended up walking away with a $250 pair of MB Quart open headphones. All I can say is WOW. They pair very nicely with my Audigy Platinum's front-mounted jacks.

$4.49 on sale thank you very much.
They might not be TOP quality, but they are capable of giving me a headache with their bass output alone, and I think they sound very good overall.

Wow, I've just installed MAD and it really sounds better, altough only with quality music. Bad quality recordings are even worse.
Sounds good with my Final Fantasy Concert album, though

I luv me sum AKG K141 Monitors

Whee

Would've probably gotten the studios, but the store I bought em from didn't have any in. Back when I bought these, it was either headphones or a Gameboy Advance. I think I made the right decision.

First, neither audigy 2 nor sennheiser HD497 are better than average.
Try dl the Mad Plug-in

ur kidding right?
audigy 2 is not better than avg? what do u suggest being better?
senn 497's are probably better cans than what 75% of the population uses.

Audigy sure is nice, but for pure music it is definitely not the best or anywhere close to it. TB or any card based on the new Via Envy24HT is considerably better in term of music.

That is so true.

My brother bought the M Audio Revelotion and some Swan T120 Speakers.

Talk about sonic bliss. He plans on picking up the HD600's next. :|

loud bass does not equate accurate bass. im sure you're satisfied with what you're hearing now, but a session with a real pair of headphones will make you change your opinion

i posted a similar thread a few weeks ago.

use the MAD decoder plugin. after i upgraded to Sennheiser HD-580's (REAL headphones), i quickly realized even Winamp 2.9x sounds worse than WMP, but with the MAD plugin, it sounds just as good or better than WMP.

also, your audigy isn't even close to top-of-the-line. you need a professional audio card with high quality D/A, shielded cabling and a breakout box / rack unit if you want to get good clean sound out of a computer. the audigy is better than onboard audio, but it ain't great.
