Hey everyone, this is a minor thing but W10 wakes up when I shake the mouse sometimes and sometimes not. If not I have to hit the main power kill switch, wait, turn on then hit the power button on the computer and let it reboot where it still has the open pages where I left off as though it woke up normally. Getting tired of this, any ideas

Since you are unwilling to provide the information other members have asked for in order to help with your problem, and since you feel it necessary to insult the members who have attempted to help you, I am locking this thread. I'm sure you can find some other place for assistance.

So you are thanking yourself for posting a question?

Yeah, that's normal.
130 actually, I forced myself to buy Apple and Google.

You?

Now, define normal? See it's normal for me to deadlift 400lbs on a Saturday morning, or ride 50 to 100 miles on my bicycle just because the road is there. This is normal for me, how about you?

Cheers

LOL. Sad, really.

Want to help us help you? List your PC hardware and age (of hardware, not you), and what you've tried.

Thinking that maybe your PSU is getting old and the +5Vsb line might be getting weak.

Note that there are different types/levels of "sleep". One is where the monitor goes to sleep, but the PC is still awake. At that point, moving the mouse should cause the screen to turn on.

Thre next level, is where the PC itself goes to sleep. If Power-management is set to allow mouse/keyboard/soft-power to wake, then hitting a key on the keyboard, or CLICKING the mouse (not just moving it), or hitting the front-panel power switch, should wake it.

If the PC actually goes into Hibernation, then generally, you'll need to hit the front-panel button , and it will power-on, POST, and then resume your Windows session from the hibernation file.

If you want to avoid the second and third types of sleep, hit Winkey+S, type "power plan", and click "edit power plan". Next to "put computer to sleep after", select "never". Set "turn off screen" to 10min or 15min or whatever you like.

If you mean am I a real gamer because I overclock my 6 core cpu, nope I am actually too old for that, but children will be children. As for giving away my parts configuration to every hacker that might be nefariously hoping I am as dumb so as to give them the info they might need to penetrate a hardware vulnerability, not likely? How about someone recommend that I hit the Windows key and R and type help in the box so I can give them my password?

You are asking for help and part of that is knowing what hardware you are running.

I think it's a safe bet that no one out there is looking to "hack" your system.

Perhaps turning down the attitude will get you more help.

Can you recommend a good cyber security firm that recommends to it's customers that they give away every little detail of their computers hardware and software configuration on the open internet where it is visible to the entire World? Now I am not accusing anyone here, but again what you ask for is not prudent on planet Earth at the present time

I'll wait

Wait for what?

Did you sign up here just to waste people's time? From thanking yourself, to being paranoid about stuff, it's all a bit much.

LOL the fact is that no one even bothered to respond to this thread until I made a response to myself. You do not know who I am, or what I do. Sure I know that kids like to brag about their game box to the other kids, but as I said my computers have other uses and I apologize that I can not give you the answer that you want. I just thought that someone might have a windows tip.

Apparently no one does, unless I give away my motherboard serial number

people respond when they are ready to.

No one cares what you do. No one cares about your MB serial number, either.

Asking for help about a complex issue with zero info will get you squat for help.

Google will give you "windows tip". This forum will give free tech advice when we know what kind of system is being asked about.

So, I see that you're a liar as well. Nice look.

Edit: And the reason that I was asking for hardware info, was to use my Google-Fu, and do the legwork that you seem incapable / unwilling to do, to see if any of your hardware or driver versions have power-management issues.

And if you have a recent Radeon card, I would tell you to update your drivers, and/or remove any GPU/mem OCs.

Again giving out information that could compromise ones situation is ill advised for me. I never said or hinted that you should care, but I do and can not share all my hardware info or would I ever. redactedI have replaced so many parts in this computer that I forget some of them. LOL this rig came with a retarded liquid cooled cpu, that went out first. Do the kids still mix water and electricity? and better yet does the moronic government still allow this?

No profanity allowed in the tech forums.

I do not want the screen to never turn off. I just want it to resume reliably and predictably

there is a program called, I think "powercfg.exe", that can show wake timers and things.

I just say "F Windows sleep mode" and disable PC-sleep mode on any desktops that I'm configuring. Because Windows never seems to get it quite right, and I prefer that my PCs stay running.

Also, if you're running an AMD card, and an HDMI display, then make sure to Enable "HDMI Link Assurance" in the drivers. That's one of the first things I do, setting up a new system, after installing AMD drivers.

Also, make sure that your platform chipset drivers are up-to-date.

If you can read, the "tip" was for PC-sleep to be disabled, and monitor-sleep to be set to 10-15 minutes.
PC sleep is fine and advantageous. As long as when you give it a kick that it wakes up, and if it does not then this ability should be eliminated or money refunded for false advertising. But that is out since MS gave the NSA the source codes for every Win computer. Apple had already given this

Of course giving away info in drivels and bits is just as bad as giving it away all at once.

Just so you know, the default Win10 "Balanced" Power Plan, has monitor-sleep, after 15 minutes, and PC-sleep after 30 minutes.

If the PC is in monitor-sleep, simply moving the mouse should wake it, but if the PC has gone into PC-sleep mode, then moving the mouse is not enough, you have to actually click it, or press the ATX soft-on/off button to "wake".

Edit:
You could, you know, disable PC-sleep mode, for a couple of days, and see if you continue to have issues or not.

Not true here as sometimes after 10 or more hours shaking the mouse wakes it up and sometimes after what seems less than an hour I need to reboot. This is the odd part, and why I suspect software not hardware.
