Windows 10 is the "official" name now!

Yes, it's Windows 10. Microslop thought that if they changed the number up one from the expected number, they could fool more people into thinking the new O/S would be really different.

Cant blame them because "Windows 9" evokes dark and scary memories of windows 95, 98, etc. Although since it is still basically the same OS, with many of the same bugs, I dont see what they're afraid of. All you gotta do is unplug your ethernet cable and you will witness the same near-total implosion of the OS that you saw in windows 98.

I have fond memories of Win95 and especially 98SE, they could of named it Win9 ,but then Win8.1=9 .

I hope they offer this one as cheap as they did Win8 at launch or maybe a free upgrade for current 8.1 users. I guess we'll see.

Either way who cares what it's called as long as it performs well. I'm posting this from Linux Mint 17 Qiana with Cinnamon 2.0. As if that name rolls off the tongue like butter.

I find the agonizing over the name to be a little silly. If it's a good OS, no one will care. Remember how horrible everyone thought the name "iPad" was?

The way you thought if you changed the company name to Microslop that we'd all have a grin and nod over the point you're trying so hard to make?

I concur.

I can't afford to make it a main, nor do I care to dual boot, but I'll give it a spin in a VM.

Microsoft's entire marketing department should be fired. First the idiocy of "Xbox One" and now "Windows 10." Seriously, these people are morons.

Who gives a crap about the name..

Look at OSX. They just use the same name over and over again despite it clearly being a different OS. 10.1 is totally different from 10.10 Yosemite. They don't even run on the same CPU architecture. It's all about marketing.

Of course it does. Just like Win7 looks like Vista. A new name coupled with a few ui improvements and watch the masses sing its praises.

I already have an OS that acts like Windows 7. It is called windows 7. Maybe they should call it W 7 * 7 or Widows 7^2.

As hinted earlier this year at Microsoft Build, Windows 10 will mark the long-awaited return of a Windows 7-style Start menu. The Windows 10 Start menu combines Windows 7's convenient column of app icons with a sidebar for Windows 8's colorful, touch-friendly Live Tiles. There's also a "Me" tile at the top of the Start menu that displays whichever user is logged in.

I think its great. So many MS haters out there, it'll be to win 8 what win 7 was to Vista. Sometimes it takes a hard fall to make u realize what uve done wrong & come back with fire in ur belly....so i expect them to get everything right this time. To be honest, no matter what they did it would've been hard to replace win7, it was a great OS that nobody felt the need to upgrade from.

For me, win 8.1 with Start button (from Stardock, only $5) is a more efficient OS & i felt it was worth it (only 8.1, stayed away from 8). But thats me. $120 for software i use every second my system is on isn't much money. Heck i paid $100 for BF4 & BF4 Premium!

They could simplify it a bit and call it to dull to figure it out the first time.
