Cant blame them because "Windows 9" evokes dark and scary memories of windows 95, 98, etc. Although since it is still basically the same OS, with many of the same bugs, I dont see what they're afraid of. All you gotta do is unplug your ethernet cable and you will witness the same near-total implosion of the OS that you saw in windows 98.

I really liked Windows 98 SE because it was a fine OS.

I never go back to XP or Win7,I'll retire Win8.1 once 10 arrives and do same for Win10 with Win11.

As to Linux I would use full time if it was not for PC gaming that I need Windows for.

I thought would of used ubuntu much more than i did. i used it a lot at the start because it was new and i wanted to learn more about ubuntu and how it works.

Bad drivers,
Vendor issue. Hardware manufacturers had plenty on time to get drivers ready.

install on low system requirements

User error. I installed the beta through rtm of Vista on a Pentium M laptop with 2gb ram and used it daily with no issues till it was released.

I just thought of something. They record your keystrokes, and your mouse movements, and your apps and files and stuff, and send it all to MS.

I wouldn't log in to any web sites that require a password, or any NAS shares, with this preview edition. Otherwise, your email/shopping/banking sites may be compromised.

best explanation I have seen to the name change. Seems like a plausible one, i bet tons of old programs were written like this.

100 years in the future, we'll all be looking forward to Windows Version Clownpenis.fart, as that will be the only combination of letters that doesn't have things already tied to it.

I did a clean install of Linux on same PC just now ,flawless install as always .

Btw one guy so far had
Windows 10 failed to install on Parallels Workstation 6 (select Windows 8 64 bit)
over at OcUK,but then its preview build so bugs/issues to be expected.

Anybody else having issues joining a domain? It seem's to be with this one particular laptop that I have. It's fairly new one, but so is the other one that does work. The one that doesn't work is a Dell Latitude E6540. The one that does work a Dell Latitude E7440.

I put the hard drive of the E6540 into the E7440 and joined the domain that way, but then when I put it back into the E6540 I get trust relationship errors.

The error I get when trying to join is Invalid Flags Specified. Weird thing is even though it doesn't join, the machine gets added into the default Computers container in AD.

Will still use Windows 7. 9 10 looks like 8. I don't like the App crap look. And if I'm staring at the GUI I want it to please. Plus, I bet it will have problems with my old games, like C&C Generals, BF2 and Sim City 4.

Windows definitely is much less error prone than Linux you can't even deny that.

Funny thought I just did a few posts back, regardless Win10 is a preview build so expect bugs/issues.

End of the day it's not important what you or I think, but Win10 feedback on technical issues for Microsoft is always a good idea .

I know one guy that has tried BF4 so far on Win10 with no issues, said he did notice some speed increase from his Win7 PC with BF4.

That's exactly what I did, no problems on the install.

I'm still running 7, having never touched any flavor of 8 or 8.1...and I'm not sure I like the look of it at all.

The flat look is a step backwards from Aero aesthetically, and I really don't understand the big "App" push. Apps everywhere...for everything. Do you know people? HAVE AN APP!!! Do you news? HAVE AN APP!!! Want to buy something? WE EVEN HAVE AN APP THAT ALLOWS YOU TO BUY APPS!!! Soooo meta.

I'll diddle with it some more, but so far (and granted...I'm 2 hours in at this point...) I don't see any reason to upgrade for my usage.

No way, that is too idiotic.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724832(v=vs.85).aspx

XP is 5.1
7 is 6.1
8.1 is 6.3

and used within source, it is:
Windows 8.1 NTDDI_WINBLUE (0x06030000) or
Windows 8.1 _WIN32_WINNT_WINBLUE (0x0603)

Windows 7 NTDDI_WIN7 (0x06010000) or
Windows 7 _WIN32_WINNT_WIN7 (0x0601)

Windows XP NTDDI_WINXP (0x05010000) or
Windows Server 2003, Windows XP _WIN32_WINNT_WINXP (0x0501)

So, in other words, that looks totally bogus that someone would check a version string that way.

You kidding?

if(version.StartsWith("Windows 9"))
{ /*95 and 98 */
} else {

Would be very common among third party code, they would have no need to use the full source names, it would be more precise if they did, but the above method would work and is easier to write without looking up the specific windows version information.

Hell, I have written things almost exactly like that myself when i was in school.
