Seems they're setting up the infra to allow PC users to install Xbox games on their PCs. I doubt they'll be allowing the options to optimize the experience for the PC, so it'll be more like a port. I've mixed feelings on this, as it's not the worst thing I've heard, but I can see devs getting really lazy and just releasing a version for the Xbox and not a version that takes advantage of the higher end hardware.

That's what devs do anyway eversince the next gen consoles came out with x86 cores, they just re compile the exe for windows and then maybe release patches for windows specific stuff.

Hopefully this will open the doors for hackers to bring console exclusives to PC.

Is this just for first party games? Otherwise, I will sell my XB1X and just use a PC. Also would be nice to finally play RDR2.

It's possible that I've misread this subject, but from what I've read it's the infra to allow Win10 users to pop an Xbox disk in and run it as if the PC was an Xbox One.

This has been a long time coming and with X86 consoles it seems like an easy win for MS's whole windows anywhere initiative.

While I'm sure MS is making a bit if money on each Xbox sold at this juncture, the real cheddar is in the licensing cost for the games. Right now, there are no to minimal licensing costs in releasing software on Windows, all money MS is missing out on. Offering devs an expanded, unified market in exchange for licensing fees is likely the cost justification for this move.

But at the end of the day it's MS. I have a suspicion they'll bungle this whole thing somehow, like they did GFW or their upteen other "gamer" focused initiatives.

I wonder if this is just for digital copies or if physical copies will work??
I have a crap ton of physical xbox one games and will just sell off my xbox one console then if this is the case.
Will be great if PC is able to do up scaling as well.

I was always under the assumption that if you bought the game at the windows store, you would get both XBOX and Windows 10 copies.

That's only for special titles that MS produces two versions of,one for each platform.
With this thingamajig devs would still have to make a special version but the same version would be able to run on both platforms verbatim with no changes at all.
So the success hangs on devs adopting this and we all know the track record of MS's anything (other then DX) being adopted by devs....this time though it could save them a bunch of money and time, they can become even lazier devs with even lazier console "ports" , so chances are good.
The interesting part will be if the special part can be retro fitted into older titles.

Seems like a pretty interesting idea.I am curious though if any game that is multiplayer will be cross platform compatible though? Will older games games be compatible or is this newcoming games?

I like the idea but if you don't got a console like myself, how much honestly changes? Steam has sales sometimes that is so insane, when i walk into a Gamestop looking for a pc game i laugh cause well usually they don't carry pc games and well their prices seriously never touch that of a Steam sale.

Perhaps if a older game like the first Titanfall which i liked somehow merged their multiplayer base from XBOX to pc that would be nice.Last time i played there was a whooping 28 people Worldwide playing it,i was in a queue that seemed to never end.I Maybe future games simply won't need a "pc port" cause lord knows we get many broken ports on pc.They build one version that is universal and any update or patch is immediately applied to both XBOX/PC. Maybe the days of day one releases being severely broken are over with more time focused on one overall version.Could mean better overall quality games day one.

I would perhaps get excited about actual physical media from XBOX simply being able to be put into a rom drive and just go.Could work for those on lower speed connections.Haven't installed a game from a disc since 2011 with Bad Company 2.Luckily Origin just kept the game key and its downloadable from there.Between my ssd and 400mb connection,i doubt a rom is ever going to keep up with that.I bought a physical copy of BF4 yet it still downloaded the entire game from origin,do all new games on XBOX do this?Seems like waste right?

Honestly..not interested in this. 3rd party hacker/emulators will do it better. MS have this knack of screwing everything up.

They are then just going to make games for Xbox One and not PC. Developers will get further lazy and never offer a PC specific version of a title with adjustable settings and real mouse support. They will say "buy it for XBox". Then MS can claim more xbox game sales that aren't a true representation of the market swings.

This is not a good idea for PC gaming. It's a bad road to go down.
