Windows 2000 & modem problem

I am having problems with my modem. I recently installed windows 2000 onto my computer. The only PCI devices are a sound card and a 56k modem. The device manager detects both fine and says the modem is working properly. But when I go through dial up netowrking to connect to my ISP, I get the error 777, that the modem on the remote computer is not working. I DO NOT have this computer netwroked nor is their a netwrork card in the machine. I can not figure put why it is tryign to use a remote computer and not the modem. In the properties of the dial-up connection, I have it set on the modem. Any suggestions?

ummm.....to clear something up...you are the remote computer dialing up to their server. That sounds like maybe a conflict in protocols. Check with your ISP. And make sure you installed the correct drivers. Cuz even if the modem thinks it's ok....it'll be trying to use the wrong command lines
