I'm dual booting windows 2000 with linux ubuntu.
In linux I have all options, but in windows I only have 640x480 and 800x600.
Running windows alone is also restricted to those 2 options.
Is there someplace in the program that can be modified?
Or is this a defect in my installation disc ?

Linux came with drivers for your video card. Windows 2000 didn't.

Go to the manufacturer's web site and get drivers.

Old age is making me a bit feeble minded !

I forgot to mention that I installed windows 2000 in a computer that has
been running windows 2000 with all the screen options. That installation
was made with this same installation disc - this clears the computer.
So I guess my Question boils down to -

Is there a glitch in my installation disk, and if so, is there someplace in the
registry that I can fix the problem after installation ?

You could take a look at your device manager and see what type of display adapter is installed, then install the driver as Ken suggested.

Depending on what you're running in Windows 2000, you might try installing it as a virtual machine in VirtualBox with guest additions on Ubuntu rather than dual-booting. I just moved an old Windows 2000 physical box into VirtualBox and it works well enough for the programs that I need so I can retire my physical hardware. A nice side effect is that if you install the guest additions included with VirtualBox, you'll get their virtual display driver and have full screen resolution or seamless full screen (combining your Ubuntu and Windows 2000 desktop windows).

As others said, it sounds you're running the generic Windows 2000 VGA driver. You need the mafacturer's driver.

The problem started when I installed windows 2000 in a virtualbox with linux ubuntu as host. The guest additions were also installed.
I have an old computer that has windows 2000 installed- it has all all the resolution options. The same installation disc was used then as i"m using now,
I also have several old 15g & 20g hard drives that I use to check out programs and combinations of programs..These are the hard drives I used trying to find
a solution. I tried many combinations but none solved the problem. I thought I used the simplest example that stated the problem correctly.

If I didn't - you must forgive a 90 year old guy - I do forget ocasionnaly - not too often though.

the 2 things that i have seen that caused this is 1) the video drivers, that was previously mentioned and 2) directx have to install the latest version to sometimes get it to fix. its and odd bug but it works

If you've installed Guest Additions, you should be able to resize your screen to an appropriate resolution.
