Windows 2000 startup bars

I'm trying to bring up an MSI PT880 motherboard. I've noticed that when Windows 2000 starts up the blue bars always start from the far left and works itself to the right. This happens everytime (not just the first time). With my other systems, after the first boot, the bars always start about half way then move to the right. I have noticed some problems trying to ghost this hard drive also. I have tried bringing up the system with the SATA Raid and an IDE hard drive separately with the same results. I've noticed also that when shutting down, the "saving your settings" message whips by pretty fast. Normally it takes awhile, especially with nortons installed. Any suggestions?

What exactly are the problems you are having?

All of the symptoms you described (bars in different locations, different shutdown speeds) are perfectly normal and vary from computer to computer.

I have brought up many systems and have never seen the bars start from the far left all the time. On the initial Windows 2000 startup it starts from the left but subsequent startups start from the middle. Perhaps it is normal to start from the far left on some system but I have never seen that.

Does anyone else's Windows 2000 start up all the time from the far left?

I know that if you have some type of ide conflicts (wrong setting such as master/slave/cs) the bars will pause for a long time when booting (sometimes a minute).

I have been having problems with ghosting the partition to an image on another partition of the IDE hard drive. I can normally do this on other systems. I also had problems writing to a cdr disk. This is very unusual.

All these occurances above lead me to believe that there is something hard drives or ide devices. I believe what I will do now is to remove the cd/dvd drives and see what happens.

I removed the ide cables completely with the same result (running with sata raid). I did get the hard drive to ghost onto a cdr. My only concern now is why the bars always start from the far left.

If I am not mistaken, when the blue bars run across the screen the computer is loading various drivers such as video, sound, etc. On the initial install the computer loads everything from scratch. It looks at your hardware and tries to load the correct drivers. That's why it starts from the far left. On subsequent boots the bar starts halfway. This is because some of the settings are remembered from the previous session. This is just my take on this so if I am not correct please correct me.

Yes. And I will restate ianbergman's answer a little differently; This has nothing to do with anything. Where the blue bar starts doesn't matter.
