I've been getting kicked from W@W over and over because of punkbuster Init failure. This never happened before (when I was on XP), but is constant now. I've tried to manually update the files, but to no avail. Any insight? Is PB just not compatible with Win 7?

My PB-a service always fails once I load up a game, but it works fine most of the time. (lol)

I just read here (4th post) that there are problems running BF 2142 also as Punkbuster is not compatible with Windows 7.

Guess it's time to go back to decent old xp and wait for the beta to catch up with the rest of the world.

Hmm well this throws a wrench into the reformat I was planning for this weekend. I don't think I can live without my 2142

Yes, I would just hold that reformat till someone here confirms whether Punkbuster is compatible with Windows 7 or not?

I know TAGES didn't work with Win7 when the beta launched, but I haven't seen the popup on my laptop in a while. I can't remember if I turned the notification off or not  so it may still not work.

Well, I tried manually updating again and haven't been kicked from W@W yet. I'm going to try Modern Warfare and see if it works.

Edit: 30 minutes of COD:4 with no kicks. I guess maybe the first manual update I did was messed up somehow...

Bump

After installing COD4 and BF2 pb still doesn't work for me even after the manual update. I also tried all the tweaks I found with a google search. As far as I can tell PB will be updated to run on win7 after it's final release. They aren't supporting the beta OS.... I got the picture that it's hopeless until 7 goes live.

Win7 build 7000

Any updates?

I had absolutely no luck with PB and BF2 in Windows 7 (7057) even after countless reinstalls/manual updates to PB. After a little snooping around, I determined that the problem was with the PnkbstrB service not initializing/disappearing from the Services manager. Setting permissions and compatibility modes on the Punkbuster services didn't work either.

This is a known problem. Even Balance has openly said they do not support beta OSs.

Have you looked in event viewer to see if there is anything there ?
It may be PB terminating itself because the windows version doesn't match.

Yeah, here's what it logs right before the game crashes to desktop:

Yeah, definitely not worth it to make it work like that.
