So this morning for some reason my bios reset (no clue why) and I let the machine boot up since I would just restart it and change whatever I needed to afterward. Windows loads and it detects my onboard audio which is now enabled since the bios reset and installs the drivers for it. Now heres the thing..after I disabled the onboard audio my x-fi sound card no longer works. Ive tried reinstalling the drivers and reseating the card but neither have worked.

I cant even instal the instal the creative drivers anymore since it says no supported product is in my system.

any help would be great thanks.
btw I realize the support might be limited for windows 7 but I guess its worth a shot.

So your x-fi worked before the bios reset?

If yes, maybe you missed a bios setting for the card to be recognized?

Did you try putting in another slot? Maybe that slot died (at the same time your board had something happened to it that knocked your CMOS settings out).

I admit I didnt try another slot..will give it a go and see how it works. I figured that it must of been some sort of issue with windows since the timing of it all but what your saying makes sense (if its possible lol)

ok so I tried another slot and its still not detecting it. I also formatted the hdd. Its not being detected in either xp,vista,or 7. Is there a way to test if the slots are ok or the sound card other than trying to put it into a different pc?

Also if a pci slot is dead would it still be powering up the devices plugged into it? My sound card is the fatal1ty flavor with the red logo that lights up..and its still lighting up despite all this.

EDIT* just tried a really old sound blaster card and it seems to have detected it (mind you windows couldn't find any drivers for it on its own).

Now I did some more thorough testing and Im even more confused then before. My machine's pci slots are fine since it detected my very old sb live 5.1 value card but couldnt instal drivers since its not supported for vista or 7. I tried my fatal1ty card in my old athlon xp system and its working perfectly

So it seems that perhaps there is something about the fatal1ty card that my current system doesnt like anymore.

If a mod could perhaps move this to a different section it would be great..since Im starting to think that this isnt so much of a os question but more of troubleshooting..thanks
