Ok here is the problem.

I am new to WIndows 7 but, quite certain this will be a small fix.

I have made an account on my Windows 7. Let's call it Tom. It is in the Administrators group. I have installed Photoshop CS2. After I played around with a file in Photoshop, I saved it in one of the directories in C:\\Program Files\XXXX\.

Here is the problem: I can see this file and access this file through Photoshop. When I open this file in photoshop, I can see that it was saved in the directory I mentioned. It has a small "Lock" symbol on the thumbnail. But, when I go to Windows Explorer and go to the directory, the file is not listed. Why is that? How can I fix it?

Also, I have noticed sometimes, some applications can't update some files while running. For example while running Foobar2000, I notice sometimes it can't update the Lyrics files and says access denied.

Thanks for your help!

I believe there's some form of directory and registry virtualization going on in Win7 to prevent you from messing with files in Program Files. Essentially stop saving files there and put them somewhere in your Documents, a data volume, etc.

I can tell what I do in order to be safe and fast.

I made my Own Folder name zDocs under C

I called it zDocs so it will be last in folder tree and thus very easy to get to.

Every time when install New application I take the minute to open a subfolder under it (Like C:\zDoc\PhotoShop) and make it the deafult folder for the application's data files.

Since it is self made Folder/subfolder I can have a full control the Network shares concerning this Folder.

It is very easy to keep a backup of my data files. I simply Sync. the whole C:\zDocs folder to a Network Backup Drive.

Windows has nothing to say about this folder since it is not part of the innate folders, and the applications can only lock the specific open files.
