Hey guys, I have a 500gb hard drive with two partitions, one for vista the other for W7.
Windows 7 doesn't see the vista partition, anyone know how to fix this? both are NTFS. When I goto computer management and drives it shows the drive, but it doesn't show up in windows explorer. In Vista I can see both drives fine.

You should count your blessings!

I'm triple-booting Vista/Win7/openSUSE on the same drive (using GRUB) and purposely hiding them from each other.

Took me 4 days to figure it out...

Not thread crapping here, but...

Why would you want to take a chance on your operating systems seeing each other???

For multibooting, you are much better off having the partitions totally independent of the others - outta sight, outta mind!

Hiding your partitions prevents confusion to the various operating systems from finding similar system files, and not knowing what to do with them and *thinking* the system is corrupt or under attack.

This is what I ended up with (Windows 7): http://www.lenon.com/images/Peek-A-Boo.jpg

Vista and openSUSE are the same way... they don't see jack!

All 3 of my OSs *think* they're running in C-drive, and don't even know the other systems exist. This is the SAFE way of doing multibooting!

LoL!

I could have 100 operating systems on my HD, as long as they don't see each other!

I don't get it...

I dual boot, and let the OSs see each other. I've always done it that way. Never had a problem - to me it is perfectly SAFE. It's also just a whole lot easier that way. Lots of programs work without having to be reinstalled under the other OS (Steam, for example. Who would want to redownload all their games on the same computer when they're already there?), and it's also easier for accessing your documents/music/whatever on the other drive/partition since not everyone keep those things on a separate storage drive.

Same here, no problems. When I'm in Vista, my Vista drive is C:, and the W7 drive is D:. When I'm in W7, the W7 drive is C:, and the Vista drive is Z:. Not too hard to keep straight.

By the way, I also had to go into the drive manager and assign my Vista drive a drive letter before it would show.

heh -- I have them all seeing each other. My Win7 install is on the D: drive, and it recognizes that just fine. Vista is on C:, and sees W7 on D. In Win7, my root directory is just d:\ and vista on C:

I like it this way

This is the problem with threads like this...

I'm triple-booting off the same drive - mixing 32-bit and 64-bit OSs - Linux and Windows - not just dual-booting Vista and Win7 (or whatever) which is child's play. Triple-booting (or more) is a different situation. Try it some time and tell me how doing things the wrong way works out for you...

Ppl like me are on a different level, like fisherman sitting above the abysmal sea of humanity, trying to raise others to our level! If you don't want to take the bait, fine. No sweat off our brow! We'll 'help' someone else...

The fact of the matter is, proggies like file managers, players, and such can see the other partitions just fine (even if you hide them) and they'll do whatever you tell them to do. That's the nature of these programs. Operating systems, AV software, and other semiautonomous proggies are a different matter. They try to protect you from attacks, and even from yourself, but I don't feel like explaining the difference to you beyond that. You'll find out when you become a man and load several OSs on your 'puter. Ignorance is bliss!

If you've never tried doing things the right way, how do you know doing things the wrong is better? Maybe you can explain that to me. Seems like a rather childish attitude, chiding someone that is trying to help you.

Admit it... you wouldn't even know HOW to hide a partiton if someone stuck a gun in your mouth and beat you with a rubber hose!

With that, I'll leave you 'computer gurus' in your pool of ignorance with the other guppies. You can't catch them all!
