Windows 7 Home vs Pro vs Windows 8

Win8 might run faster, but i imagine its because the UI isnt as pretty as win7 with Aero, n9?

You can imagine whatever you want but it uses less resources and manages them better

There are plenty of articles on it. If you do serious computing and have a CPU w ht you will see nice gains from 8.

Im hoping in 9 they'll go back to making it look like a PC instaed of a phone. But it's time to realize the PC's days are numbered and tablets and ultrabooks and smart phones and RMT devices are taking over.

This post is serious? Have you seen 8.1?

PC dead? That's what they said years ago.

Tablets as we know them today are more likely to die than a real desktop. 2in1/convertibles will get faster and smaller and closer in price and they are way more useful than an iPad/androidtab/surface

Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium is good enough for me. But if you want multiple CPUs, more than 16GB RAM, or RDP server support, then Win7 Pro should be your choice.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a HP xw6600 with two Xeon E5450. Does that mean I am going with half the engine? I can remove one CPU if necessary as I find no practical use for it.

You forget that all those ultrabooks and phablets and slates and convertibles and whatever need an OS to run, otherwise they are just useless hardware. Apart from Windows, what else are you going to slap on them? Linux and cross your fingers? Android still has leaps and bounds to go as a general OS too. Windows on the other hand is flexible, versatile, and I'd bet money that by Windows 9 everything will be covered under a single Windows core - no more RT etc. And Windows is still firmly a desktop OS, no matter what extra UI you slap on it.
