32/64 bit and various languages are all interchangeable. It's just that the upgrade keys and full version keys that seem to be different.

This is legit. I wish I had known about the Pro upgrade option, though. I bought the Home Premium upgrade only.

quick question:

Note: If your goal is to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista 32-bit, you will need to include the Backup DVD with your Order and install Windows 7 using this DVD media.

is that the option upon checkout that says : Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade 64 Bit Disk Kit: Only $13 - Shipping Included | (Details) ---- is this the 'backup dvd'?

??

Yep.

I did the download-only from DigitalRiver, combined to an ISO, burned a DVD and did a clean install.

So is there some option to be actually sent the disc? Ive read some people saying stuff like that but I wanted to confirm it.

Also I dont quite understand why theyd offer the home premium and pro, why would anyone buy the premium(except on accident) over the pro. heh.

Has anybody received confirmation for shipping of the DVD media? I ordered the DVD and I have yet to hear anything about it being shipped, and I only have been charged the $29.99 and not the extra $13 yet.

Not really worried, I figure they're still just slammed with order completions.

I received an email (separate) saying the disc had shipped.

Thank you for ordering from the Windows 7 Online Store on September 17, 2009. The following product(s) have shipped. If you paid by credit card, your credit card has now been charged.

I did this deal too, but I couldn't get the 64-bit download to boot from a DVD or USB drive. I found this post and thought I'd share it:

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2...tudent-only-windows-7/

Read through the comments for an alternate download link of the file they mention, or if you have any trouble with the process. I was trying to create the ISO from a Win7 PC and the command line they mention in the main post doesn't work - the one in the comments does.

thats the exact website I used phreak. Just find it in the comments and youll find the right command line. BTW, was anyone else able to get a full install (i.e. like vista) on the upgrade edition? I was able to do by using the double install trick. Just wondering how many other people have gotten it to work.

i found a web site by googleing "digital river windows 7 boot"... has a boot file that you can use with a iso creater and then you can burn it...

and i did a fresh install with no os disk attached with the win7 home pro upgrade... use the custom install...

Xcobra, I can confirm that the upgrade workaround that was a loophole in Vista still works. I found an easier way than double installing it though.

Link: http://community.winsupersite....-media-the-answer.aspx

It's as simple as changing a registry key. On a brand new virgin drive, I inserted a Win 7 Pro 64-bit boot disk, did a clean install, skipped activation, made the registry fix while I was in windows, rebooted, and was able to activate using my Upgrade key.

Yeah. I have my tracking #. They are working hard... got a call from them while I was out @ ~9pm PST (it's Saturday night).

Are you able to order more than one copy?If you are, then did it show up in the cart or do you have to order each copy individually?

You have to call their phone # set up specifically for ordering student copies. It's 1 per student (not 100%, but I don't see why they would allow more than 1) and they don't have the phone # up on the site any longer. Digitalriver might.

Argh, I just bought the Home Premium version. I totally forgot about finding and selecting the Professional version.

Any way to cancel change?

I was all excited about this until I got to the Billing page where you enter your credit card info and read the Terms & Conditions. You have to be enrolled for at least 0.5 credits, and if you cannot provide proof of this if Microsoft asks for it, you are liable for the difference between the $29.99 and the full retail cost. I guess they may never ask but I don't think I want to take that chance (I'm an alum).

Took me a few weeks, my son's school doesn't give out student email accts, but the MSDNAA contact emailed me back last week saying no problem, and today I got the ELMS acct/pw and just finished downloading and burning XP pro SP3 to a CD and printing out his serial number to activate it.

They also still offer Vista business edition DVD for $25 media charge, but nothing on W7 yet. Vista I think we will skip.

Thanks OP for putting up the thread.

I wouldnt be so paranoid. Like they have time to go through the thousands of orders to check that they are actually taking classes.
