Keep in mind, Windows XP SP0 and windows XP SP3 are very different. even things like Windows Firewall and Security center didn't exist in SP0 and SP1...all of which take up RAM.

This. XP's requirements have increased quite a bit from service pack to service pack.

It's not your cpu - it's the lack of memory. My netbook, with an Atom much slower than your CoreDuo and 1GB of ram, ran XP well enough. I switched to Windows 7 and it slowed to a crawl.

Then I upgraded to 2 GB of ram and it was running faster than it did in XP. I wouldn't even be surprised to find my old P3-866 running faster in 7 than XP if gave it enough ram.

The T2400 was released in 2006. There is no way a 2002/2003 laptop will sport a Core Duo CPU. The P4-M and, later on, Pentium-M were the norms in those years. You must either be confusing the year of purchase or a different laptop you purchased.

And everyone knows a cutting-edge technology remains cutting edge for a few months only. Your laptop is old hardware now and that 1GB memory is just not enough for today's applications.
Sorry for the late reply. Well, "T2400" is what it says in Windows 7 that I loaded on this laptop. Maybe Win7 is reading it wrong? I dunno.:ninja:

I swear it, I bought this laptop at BestBuy a week after I got hired from a job (no, not BestBuy), and that was year 2003 May!!! or maybe it was 2004? Ok now you guys getting me confused. The sticker says CoreDuo. Maybe I got the Engineering sample?? The special edition prototype... I paid over $2000 for this little thing (13.3" widescreen).

Anyways, I found out more issues with Windows 7. I tried it with work laptop (Dell D630 with Core2Duo w/ 4GB of RAM), new install OS. See below:

- When I click on a link, any link, to download a file (support.dell website for drivers) it takes a FEW MINUTES before the popup box comes up asking where you want to download to. I thought it was just the internet slowing down, nope it wasn't. I tried it on WinXP laptop and it downloaded IMMEDIATELY. This shows how slow the Windows 7 is... now, i will give you credit that once it starts downloading it downloads at full speed. Network file transfer speed is great too, faster than WinXP, but NOT faster than Server 2003 PC lol....

There is no lag time with WinXP. There is no lag time with Server 2003. There is no lag time with Server 2008. ONLY the Windows 7 has full of lags for a lot of things... with lots of RAM or not it has lags. It's not immediate like Server 2003, no comparison....

So I went back to good'ol famous Server 2003 on my Sony laptop. It's running 1GB of RAM. All that speed has come back! and no lag time! it knocked my socks off. I almost sh#t my pants.

I am not going back to Windows 7. Server operating system is flat out faster extra ram or not.

There wasn't Core-anything before 2006. Who knows what craziness you actually have going on with your hardware and probably some jacked up burned copy of Windows 7.

There are two ways of making your laptop faster, go back to XP or add ram. Bitching about Windows 7 and not taking any advice will not make a bit of difference.

According to Sony, the VGN-SZ110 is indeed CoreDuo CPU, at 1.83ghz. I couldd'a sworn I bought this back in 2003 or 2004. It can't be 2006! I don't have the receipt now. How do I go about obtaining the sales receipt for this laptop at BestBuy? Once I post it I will take pictures of the receipt....D: There's no craziness going on with my laptop. The windows was installed clean, on a clean single partition. Also, the work laptop has Windows 7 installed using a legit CD so no faults there.

That system was released in early '06, like we have been telling you. You absolutely, 100%, did not buy it in 03/04 unless you bought it from a time travelling salesman.

Past that, as others have said, you will need more RAM. That system should be able to handle 2GB (but probably not more, chipset limit). Past that, maybe consider an SSD if you are deeply attached to that system, but then you are talking about putting more money than you probably should into an older system.

Ok i give up. You guys won. I'm too old to keep up with arguments as to who's rite and wrong. D:

Nah I'm not deeply attached to my laptop. I have put some love into it. Don't feel like getting rid of it as I can't afford to buy another laptop. Like ya said, adding more ram will probably suffice. 1GB is too little for today's standard ain't it.

I had a MacBook that was of an age to that Sony of yours. Win7 ran just fine on 2GB RAM. Heck, Vista (which was more resource intensive) ran pretty well too, but Apple slacked on the drivers there for the longest time.

Not that it's an user error or anything. I would like to make a statement that the Windows 7 is slow operating system.

With Server 2003, my PC flies. It's so fast it knocked my socks off.

With Server 2008, both R1 and R2, it's so fast they both knocked my socks off about the same as it did with Server 2003. Well, maybe Server 2003 a tad faster? but really close.

With Windows 7 it's slow as hell. It spends most of time cranking my hard drive. All I hear is the hard disk activities. Yep, Windows Protection (system restore) is OFF.

All this is happening with my Sony VGN-SZ110 laptop that has 1GB RAM & Core Duo Intel chip.

Lose the craptop or get used to it. 2GB RAM minimum.

1. Get more RAM. 2GB will be sufficient, but 3GB is better.

2. Upgrade the hard drive. Get a 250+GB 7200rpm drive (a new 2010/2011 model year one - they're faster) or, even better, an SSD. Your Core Duo will fly in Windows 7.
