Windows 7 login password delay

Howdy. Sometimes when logging into Windows 7 (after the "Starting Windows" screen) at the login prompt there is about a half minute or so delay when typing the password to the user. After a bit, the keystrokes are recognized and the password takes and logs in normally to the desktop.

This doesn't happen all the time. When the computer goes to sleep and the login prompt that follows is pretty responsive. Some boots or reboots it is also pretty responsive.

My system:
core i5 -2500k
Asus p8z68-v pro
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
OS is loaded to Crucial m4 128 GB SSD
only one user on the system

Anything I could check to see what is causing this? Or how to fix this if possible? Thanks.

I have that happen too. I think the SSD is loading into windows so fast the USB/keyboard drivers aren't even loaded. I have a Logitech G35 keyboard with the LCD display, I can tell it doesn't even get initialized until well after the login prompt comes up.

I have this happen as well on my laptop when its resuming from hibernation. Its probably that the keyboard/usb as Fear said, is not fully loaded yet. I would not worry about it to much

I always wondered about this. It happens with my vertex 3 but not with my old intel G2 80gb. Guess the vertex is too fast for windows lol.

This happens for all of my Domain joined machines because they are looking/waiting for the DC to communicate. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to bypass this delay.

As for home/workgroup machines, my guess is that if you have multiple PC's joined in a Homegroup, it's searching for them upon login. Although I do not have this problem.

I don't buy the whole "the SSD's are too fast for windows" bit. There's gotta be something else going on.

Regarding your slow login for domain joined PC's: been there, fixed it, passed on the tee-shirt.

Set your domain member's primary DNS to the IP address of your domain controller and nothing for the secondary DNS. Default gateway set to the router's IP. I set up a small office for some family and they have a DC and 4 workstations and ran into this problem until I set the primary DNS to point to the DC. Now, his workstations with SSD's are insane, they boot up fast and log in almost instantly.

Make sure your DC has a static IP too if it doesn't. DC's are powerful DNS servers and if the DC can see the internet, it should let your domain PC's in on the action too, barring some freak setup or firewall stopping DNS packets.
