Hmmm1 The ol' TechNet subscription looks better and better.
How so? Isn't one of those $350 a year?
Microsoft would certainly like to have some positive early sales results to report. In the months before a software upgrade, both PC and software sales will go into a major slump without some sort of "deal".Originally posted by: M0RPH
$49 is a great deal for home premium, but is anyone else bothered by paying for something they won't get for another 4 months?

Alive at Amazon. Just search for Windows 7.
Home Premium: http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...K/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
Professional: http://www.amazon.com/Microsof...&qid=1245989105&sr=8-2
I am looking for 32 bit. Links don't specific 32 or 64 bit upon quick scan.
All Windows 7 editions include both 32-bit and 64-bit regardless of whether you choose to download or the packaged product.

That's because it comes with both.

my question is why would any one buy this before 7/11?
What happens on 7/11?

Seems like they should have done the pre-orders closer to launch of the product.

I'm on my 2nd year - $250. I get ALL of MS major software, including the OS's that are legally installed on up to 10 machines. Go figure.

LOL this... why pay now when you can pay latter? Possible find out about cheaper prices, maybe a freebe will pop up somehow. I prob wont buy it till RC expires though...

That's what I'm planning on doing as well. Why pay full price right now when you can wait. The price can only go down. Although it wouldn't surprise me if MS changes their mind about when the RC expires or starts giving you nagging popups and/or restarting randomly. Why let you use the OS for free when we can force you to have to pay for it now?
Being that I have XP (and a corporate version) there is no upgrade path for me. I'm going to have to buy the full version of Ultimate. We still use XP at work...no Vista. So there's no hope of me getting a corp version of W7.

so it looks like Windows 7 Professional supports XP mode and Windows Home Premium does not.
Correct... provided that your cpu supports either intel vt or amd-v

I'm not the "EULA/licensing pro" but technically, my employer has the XP license, not me. I use it at home with their consent.
I don't think I can use their license to upgrade...or can I?

I see what you mean. You would be paying to upgrade their license. I thought you were saying that you couldn't upgrade a personal copy of XP.
Also, was there a reason you need Ultimate versus Pro?
