Trying to install windows 7 (rtm, professional 64bit) on one of my machines
(q6600, abit ip35-e, 4gigs ddr2 6400 ocz, seagate 7200.10 500gb, lg ggw-h20l).
Machine is currently running vista 32 (no issues) on a 320gb wd drive,
install seems to run fine until it hits "completing install", right after installing updates finishes. Let it run overnight, no movement, and the little circle which replaced the hourglass is also stuck. Tried disabling ide controller and unplugged all unnecessary usb (just have keyboard/mouse plugged in).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. The machine is in use as a media center, so its in a cabinet and getting it out to change hardware (go back to 2 gigs, remove tv tuner, remove firewire card...) is somewhat complicated and I would prefer to avoid that if possible.

tried unplugging the ggw-h20l and installing off a usb key, seems to be a similar issue, both cases it goes ok until one of the reboots after that it runs for a little then just halts, no error, no progress after waiting for hours.

I had a very similar problem with bsods and this same motherboard. I ended up installing it to a different drive and ghosting it back to the raptor.

amddude, tried on 2 seagate 500gig drives, only other drive I have in that case is the 320 which has vista on it, and which I don't want to touch. If nobody has any other suggestions I guess I will pull the case out of the rack and remove the tuner, firewire card and maybe 2 sticks of ram, but I am disappointed, maybe its a 64bit issue (vista was 32 on that machine) but I expected a smoother install considering its relatively recent hardware and all runs fine in vista.

same issue with 32bit, guess I will have to start pulling hardware to see what is causing the lock

I installed Win7 RTM 64bit without any problems on Abit IP35-E/4GB/e8400 and a bunch of other hardware (and yes, it's also HTPC heh). I did clean install on a new hard drive.

Same issue here. I had this with RC1 over X64 and just gave up because I had too much to do. Abit also and hangs on both X32 and X64 installes with the bar around 75% of full.

My setup is an Abit AB9-Pro with 3 Seagate 500GBs, 4GB of mem with an ATI 1950-Pro. Just finished reloading Vista x64 on it. And I can see nothing in the news groups that sounds similar.

Try different SATA cables. I had this very issue last week , I thought the drive was the issue. I ran seatools (DOS) and it said all was ok, but if I tried to wipe the drive for longer than 10 seconds it would start writing , get about 1000 sectors in, then fail. Try again , get about 200 sectors in and fail. SMART, etc said drive was good . So I changed the cable. Drive worked perfect and win7 installed fine.

It just so happens the board the cables came with was the Abit AB9-Pro. Could just be coincidence but worth a shot.

Modelworks, changing the cables is not a bad idea (since I just grabbed 2 sata cables that were laying around when I added in the drives), I don't think its the problem but it is a possibility.

If that works, post it. I will make a run to Fry's if it does.

solved this a while back thought I would post the problem. It was a pci express firewire card (don't remember the brand), windows 7 would not install (or boot) with the card in, removed the card and everything went smoothly.
