Currently working on a clients PC to try to resolve some compatibility isssues with her computer running applications from her school's network.
When she signs in, she is having numerous problems in maintaining a reliable connection and the software continually crashes.
After issuing tickets to the schools tech dept. I've finally been told that the system has various compatibility issues with pc's running IE 8. So......I'm at a standstill in trying to resolve the issue. IE 8 is an integrated part of the operating system, and I'm having a hard time in trying to figure out what to do at this point.
Any tips on rolling back the browser? or uninstalling it from windows 7?

Her computer came pre-installed with Windows Vista 64-bit and I did an upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.

That's very common, and in some situations, it's expected behavior. Many apps built for the browser were designed for IE6, not for your everyday W3C browser...for example, browser-based training that my wife is building can only be viewed in IE: all other browsers are completely unsupported (meaning, it doesn't even load, much less work correctly).

Click the compatibility button. That should solve it.

If not, start by disabling SmartScreen Filter. Utilize (and regularly update) the HOSTS file from mvps.org in place of that feature instead.

If that doesn't do the trick, try turning off DEP.

It is probably just an issue with people building applications that wont support the newer browser. I work at a community college and we have the same issue with some of our software. Typical lousy programming 2 browser issues behind in compatability.

You would think there would be a way to run this stuff in compatability mode.

How can colleges and other schools expect people not to want the newer operating system? This is just rediculous. Often server technology does not keep up with Microsoft.
