Adding AVX should not be considered "adding support for Sandy Bridge". AMD's forthcoming Bulldozer based chips also support AVX extensions so both Intel and AMD processors will benefit.

ooops!!!!!

I have it, but have not yet installed. Guess I will hold off for a little while longer, until this gets resolved one way or another.

Guess it is (officially) going to come later than we thought? I have a new HDD that I would like to install and do a fresh slipstream on.

some more food for thought on this subject -

Regarding the debate over whether 7601.17514 is the real RTM or if it's just another RTM escrow (i.e., a RTM candidate that was not signed-off on), it seems that everyone and every "news" source that people have pointed to points back to that Russian TechNet blog post. It's really quite amusing to read some of the posts in this thread, where someone would point to the TechNet post and then, as an extra source, to some "news" article that was ultimately sourced from that same TechNet post.

In all this, I find it surprising that nobody noticed the biggest and most convincing piece of evidence in support of 7601.17514 being the signed-off RTM. Take a close look at KB976902 (the servicing stack update; support.microsoft.com/kb/976902). You will notice that a number of the files found inside this update are 7601.17514 (the others carry an original 7600.16385 build number). This is far more convincing to me than some Russian TechNet blog post (unless it came from Redmond, I don't really trust TechNet blog posts) or the "have faith in wzor" doctrine. The fact of the matter is, Microsoft has already public released some of the bits in 7601.17514 via WU, and if that isn't a signal of sign-off, I don't know what is!

As for how this leaked, I suspect that it was probably "leaked" in the usual manner: Microsoft has a long history of supplying their close partners (esp. the "royalty" hardware partners, e.g., Dell) with early bits and frequent iterations of betas, RCs, etc. Redmond's security is actually pretty tight; it's almost always the third parties involved that are the sieves.

there is no watermark or time limit with this either

Hmm. My friend (against my advice, to wait for official MS release) installed an "RTM" version, that DOES have a watermark. I told him he would have to uninstall it and re-install the proper SP before it expires, but he didn't care.

I just installed this build onto a secondary Hard drive on my machine and everything is fine, no water mark no crazy crashing.

Installed rebooted and finished!

However I wasn't silly enough to install this on my SSD yet.

Now we could use SP3 for Vista.

Personally, I'am hoping to see an update to Windows Millennium before vista.

I usually do not install any service packs until several weeks after release, let someone else be the beta tester.

For anyone that's been on the torret sites, is there an .iso out that is the whole Windows 7 w/ SP1 in it (I think MSDN or something like that puts them out)?

I like this way better, as you can do a fresh install with SP1 already incorporated, right from MS...so it should be as good as possible.

If someone got the watermark, that clearly indicates a newb - he used the RC not the RTM

I've slipstreamed both X86 and X64 and integrated all my P67 drivers also

I have 25 PC at my business and 5 at home and I updated them all with SP1, and occasionally you get the SP1 to error out at about 75%, depending on whether or not your system has been updated all along, and whether the latest vers of SP1 prereq actually installed successfully. The first SP1 install prereq was flawed and was pulled by MS. It actually disappeared from your update possibility list, then miraculously reappeared later. It became known as the black hole update. However, when slipstreamed, that is no longer an issue - there is no possibility of fail. Its either in or not - heh.

Tested install with both SS - no hay problema

Edit:
Forgot to mention - any prob with a manual install of SP1 can be resolved with the MS 101MB readiness tool

What other version is there?

This whole thread is about the RTM version.

I got mine through softpedia which has the legitmate version.

Is there a single version for 64 and 32 bits or are they separate (anyone)?

Most of the torrents seem to have 2 versions but I only see the one version on Softpedia and am not sure whether it's 32 or 64 bit (or both).
