Windows 8.1 can't install on new HDD/SSD

I put together a new computer yesterday and I'm having some issues installing Windows 8.1. My ASRock H97 Anniversary motherboard recognizes my HDD and SSD, but when I get to the windows setup screen, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." In my UEFI, I have the SATA controlled as 'Enabled' and it's set on 'ACHI'. I've tried using different SATA ports, but none of that made any difference. I've also tried updating the ACHI controller through a USB stick, but that didn't work either. Do any of you have ideas on how to fix this issue? Thanks for any help.

Try installing while keeping ONLY ONE disk attached to the motherboard. And of course that should be the SSD. After you finish the installation and everything seems okay, reattach the other hard disks.

I've also tried that, but I get the same error message. It always says that I need to enable the device in the UEFI even though it already is activated. I tried following the Newegg video guide on installation, but I can't get past the setup screen.

Interesting, I had the EXACT same problem last week and it turned out being the second SSD in my system. As soon as I disconnected all but the install SSD, everything went fine.

If disconnecting the HDD doesn't work, what would you suggest doing?

Try doing this:

Try to following methods:

1)Check if you have an SD Card in the system. If you do, you remove it and run setup again.

2) Once the setup fails to find the partition, just close the setup window (the top-right-hand side red X does the job).

From that point, you should be brought back at the initial setup screen.Choose "Repair" then go to the advanced tools and start the command line.

Start DISKPART.

Type LIST DISK and identify your SSD disk number (from 0 to n disks).

Type SELECT DISK <n> where <n> is your SSD disk number.

Type CLEAN

Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

Type ACTIVE

Type FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK

Type ASSIGN

Type EXIT twice (one to get out of DiskPart, the other to exit the command line tool)

Just attempted the above method, but I got the same result. Not sure if my issue is with UEFI settings or with the hardware. Any more suggestions?

What mode are you setting in the BIOS for the hard drive?

Try enabling "CSM mode" in your BIOS (CSM boot, CSM BIOS, etc.), and install that way. Perhaps something is screwed up with your BIOS or UEFI install media.

I think I managed to install Windows 8.1 on my SSD(going right now). I noticed that CSM was enabled by default in my UEFI, so I turned it off and was able to start the installation.
