I had a minor issue where my wireless would not connect ,turned out it was my hidden SSD,there is a box you must tick if you have a hidden SSD so it can connect, don't think that is your issue because you say yours is a driver issue.

As to shutdown ,reboot etc what's wrong with right clicking in left corner like this

I'm not sure what a "hidden SSD" is, but I *do* have what I would call a "dormant SSD" -- my Intel 520 is currently on a SATA port which is disabled in BIOS. I suppose there might be a way Win8.1 knows it's there? So, can you elaborate where that box is that should be ticked for a hidden SSD?

Nothing "wrong" with clicking in the left corner, but why not have a single click do the same. I realize I mis-described my shortcut, as it's not on my desktop, it's on the task bar -- always visible and with a single click can shutdown or restart. I just wondered outloud why shutdown.exe with the /r switch doesn't work in Win8.1 any more.

Where did you find that? I really would like to have a clean install since all my apps are gone now too.

[redacted]

is a complicated one that links you to a site where you have to register, then download their DOWNLODAER app which is what you see in the screenshot above

But I personally know that member she lives in the states and she got the English US ISO which is what I want

if I download it here from Dubai ,it will download the UK English ISO

Seems like it should as long as the hash code matches in the ms website. Also, are you sure you have an installation key because it will not let you install with your regular windows 8 key.

The ISOs downloaded using the Windows Setup 8.1 Box installer will never match the hashes of the MSDN:

1) The ones on MSDN are not yet updated, it is the RTM, not the GA version which has 3 more updated preinstalled in it

2) Each ISO created by the set up installer is unique, hencese, even when MSDN has the GA ISO available, the hashes won't match, but rest assured they're the same content

Sorry guys, but you know the rules: no links to pirated software. If it doesn't come from MS's servers, it's not meant for distribution

I updated to 8.1 but I have a weird issue. I cannot format my storage E: drive. When I try and do it through disk management it says "windows cannot format the system partition on this disk". I didn't install on that drive though so I don't know why its giving me this issue. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. Figured it out.

My system updated quickly and smoothly, but it changed my log-in ID to my Microsoft mail account and won't let me use my local account. I have no desire to have my activity tracked by Microsoft, so I immediately restored the system from a WHS 2011 back-up.

Now to find a way to update that'll maintain my local account . . .

Now my desktop shows windows 8.1 pro evaluation copy 9600. Updated last night through the store. I went to the ms site, downloaded the windows 8 setup program as well as the windows 8.1 setup program.

Started the windows 8 setup program and put in my windows 8 key. Then it began downloading...I exited and started the windows 8.1 setup program and it began downloading an 8.1 iso. Lets see if I can do a clean install of 8.1 now.

For me this was very confusing.
As some point it asks you for your password to an account to set it up.
At this point you have to select "this is not my account".
That should finish the installation without using Microsoft accounts.

I am getting extremely gaudy colors in the start screen, even with desktop apps.
They all used to have the same background, but now background colors which depend on the icon.
Looks very unprofessional, with meaningless different colors as if it were trying to put programs in different categories and getting confused.

Lol no problem it's on my usb now and I'm about to wipe my ssd and install. Not sure if you have to use your windows 8 key at the install or the generic ms install key. Guess I'll find out.

Edit: need to use the generic 8.1 install key. Hope it activates with my windows 8 key though.

I'm going to also try putting it on my SSD on my laptop however I'm going the ei.cfg route since the laptop has the key integrated into the motherboard which stops the setup bootup.

My sound card does not work. Apparently drivers need to be specifically signed for Windows 8.1.

Clean install of 8.1 pro finished. Used my win 8 upgrade key to activate. Linked my user folders back to my platter drive so no data lost except small apps I had on the ssd. Good thing I kept everything on my second hard drive and not the ssd.

Now to figure out how to bypass lockscreen.

Anyone that wants an 8.1 iso and clean install follow my post #88. You will need a generic install key and your windows 8 key you bought or upgrade key after installation.

I just reinstalled 8.1.

I unplugged the ethernet cable after the download completed and it asked me to reboot. It then used my local account.

Easy as can be . . .

I did the same. If you disable wifi or unplug the ethernet cable, then press back and then next it will skip asking you for a microsoft account if it doesn't detect an internet connection.

Installed last night on my Asus ROG G75 and all went smooth, not a single issue. However, I notice on my IE top bar has a description now and a tiny IE icon above the back button. I am pretty sure it was not there before...

Any way to remove them?

I'll have to check mine too. I upgraded last night but today I made an iso and clean installed. Don't have any drivers so im using the Intel hd ones for now. I don't think I saw the small e either. It's kind of hard to notice. Were you downloading something or loading another tab or page at the time ?
