lol, worst name ever for such a poorly received OS.

That said, is anyone who hasn't upgraded or tried Windows 8 planning to try/upgrade to this service pack?

Yes. If the beta has enough improvements in it for me then I will probably put it on the new PC I am planning to get in the next few months.

I might it depends on cost. I'm already running 8 on my desktop without any trouble and judging by the preview video they aren't making any monumental changes to the OS just ease of use changes.
If it's free I'll go ahead and upgrade. If they charge me for it I'll just stay with what I'm using.

Blue is essentially SP1, far as I know it's been announced as free for a few months now. I'll be upgrading my Win8 box whenever it's available.

Windows Pink would be worst ,it's supposed to be more then a service pack hence Blue/8.1 renaming and some sites also stated this,

Windows 8.1 will offer much more than a traditional "Service Pack", making it comparable to Apple's annual OS X updates.

As you know Microsoft did state they were going to go on yearly upgrades for OS,Win8 users will get it free and I don't see no reason why Win8 users would not upgrade to 8.1 for free, yes I will as well .

I see it sort of like Win98 to Win98SE so more then a service pack, supposed to have quite a few new features including IE11 to name only one.

Huh? You're aware that Blue is just an internal codename, right? The official name is Windows 8.1. This isn't like Apple where the OS codename is the product name.

I am going to wait to see some real world reviews before installing it.
Its not much different from vanilla win8, just a few more features(mobile oriented mainly) added along with performance improvements ala XP SP3 that's all.

I heard, the start menu is making a comeback. Good enough reason to upgrade for me.

I heard, the classic start menu is coming back?

Not exactly, from what I have read it just takes you to Metro Start screen, either way not bothered since I have got use to using Win8 without one.

Anyway 8.1 preview is out very soon so you will find out then.

It's nice to start work having an actual desktop in front of your face, without having to click/swipe/breathe first thing in the morning. This needs to be out of the box experience.

Yeah, can't wait.

11. Better with a mouse and keyboard

For devices without touch, Windows 8.1 features a number of improvements for easier navigation using a mouse and keyboard. "PCs today are evolving for a world of mobile computing where people interact with their devices through touch, and we designed Windows 8 for this," explains Leblond. "But we also recognize there are many non-touch devices in use today - especially in the commercial setting."
Thanks. I am intrigued.

I'll be testing this in a virtual machine. From there, I'll be moving to a testing it on live hardware. This is the part that will be a bitch.

I've already done initial testing on Win8 and have resolved some issues with peripherals that we use. I gotta know what it works with, and what it doesn't work with and then see if I can get the non-working crap working. Just making sure the beta doesn't throw up anything new. Then when Win8.1 final gets released, I get to do it all over again.

-I guess at a meeting some asked who has/uses a touch screen ,peeps look at their phones ,raise hand ,hands counted 100% people have touch screens so lets go head with metro only in win 8 .
-do these guys get paid for this crap.

it is not an internal codename if they don't keep it internal.

Blue is one of the common names people are using to describe the OS... that makes the actual name "Blue"... regardless of what microsoft wants to call it.

Metro is also the name for windows 8... both are acceptable and valid regardless of what microsoft might want.

these "unwanted names" are the spawn of internal idiocy in microsoft's part...

No, it is not coming back.

microsoft IS adding a new button that takes you directly to Metro and placing it where the "Start" button is in previous versions of windows... but it is most certainly NOT a start button as defined by previous versions of the OS.

just a marketing ploy to call it START

That's a bad comparison though. We don't call Win95 "Chicago" or WinVista "Longhorn." We call them by their official names of Windows 95 and Windows Vista.

Metro on the other hand was an official technology name until MS ran into legal issues and had to abandon it.

Hopefully they get the menus more friendly to kb/m. I've had a nightmare this time with me having to retrain people to do things as simple as shutting the computer down. I let my brother try to shut down a Windows 8 machine without him ever using it and after 5-8 minutes I finally just showed him.

I run 8 on my work desktop, my gaming desktop, my laptop, and my phone, so yes I'll be upgrading Day 1. I also can't wait till April 2014 when XP finally dies.

Kind of funny really.....All of the complaints from consumers about Windows 8 and Microsoft's response is basically FU......yet the Xbox One gets the same response and they do a complete 180 and reverse everything consumer's bitched about.

Two completely different groups of users.

Once you leave the highly vocal groups within forums similar to these, Windows 8 actually fared pretty well out in the open. Also, Windows 8 was generally criticized for its interface, whereas the rest of the OS was very solid. Many people would like to think that everyone held the same criticism of Win 8, but it's simply not true. I did have some friends who complained initially of having to relearn how to do things, but they went silent as I expected once they learned how to use it. When people start spouting about how horrible Windows 8 is all I can think of how crazy they sound because WinME was dramatically worse and Win8 had a far smoother release than Vista. Yes, the interface sucks...but its far from unusable. At least it isn't blue screening every other click.

Xbox One on the other hand is in a very specific market where falling well under sales projections at release can crush momentum for years. Preorders for Xbox One had not only slowed but completely reversed with people cancelling and jumping to the PS4 in droves. When your own core fans are cancelling orders, that's a sign that something was seriously wrong.
