Only problems with specific games and some old ones. I hear 8.1 is worse when it comes to games.
Also, Nvidia's 3DTV play will not install properly in 8.0 for me. It's completely useless and I wish NV would fix it but the file they have hasn't changed in over a year at least.

Updated her PC tonight, the second one in my signature. Upon reboot I got an error code about missing the boot disk loader, so from what I've quickly researched the whole install is hosed. Probably leave it alone and let her stay with Windows 7.
My PC upgraded just fine though last weekend though.

I upgraded one of my computers to 8.1 for BF4, ran way better than W7 so I proceeded to upgrade my other two gaming machines. No problems on any of them and all the hardware and software I use has worked as I expect it to work.

For like the last 20 years MS had altered between good (or a major upgrade for the time) and dud. I'm not counting sub versions like Win95 2.1 (OSR 2), etc.

Windows 8 (dud)
Windows 7 (good)
Windows Vista (dud)
Windows XP (good)
Windows Me 14 September 2000 (massive dud)
Windows 2000 17 February 2000 (good)
Windows 98 25 June 1998 (OK to dud)
Windows 95 24 August 1995 (good)

Lets hope windows 9 is killer.

I think it's quite funny that "store" doesn't work on my desktop after install.

Lets do a recap here,so you are saying you have never seen over the decades anybody with XP,Vista,Win7 etc in help/support forums with issues around the net?..I think you need to open your eyes a bit more since most users don't have real issues but those minority that do will obviously go to the help /support forums etc...

Personally 8.1 has been fine for me.

Ever since I put 8.1 on my tablet, the screen backlight wont turn off. (!) Seriously only microsoft could pull something this retarded. When you press the button to put the device to sleep, the screen actually does go black, but the backlight is still on. I just did a complete shutdown/power off and I havent gotten around to figuring out if it was just a one time thing. Honestly I'm so disgusted with the thing that I dont even want to turn it on. I'd rather use a 2 year old ipoop.

Windows 8 isn't a dud per-se, the Metro UI was just a stupid idea and should've remained on mobile versions like Windows Phone 7&8's OS. Vista sucked on a lot of things but once turning off the annoying UAC and a couple other things it wasn't bad on my Dell laptop, Windows ME was horrible horrible horrible and no one should ever utter a word about it- ever. Windows 98SE improved 98, 98 was just a security hole plugged into your PC when you were online.

You forgot NT4, well NT4 wasn't consumer level but it was a solid desktop OS as well, seems commercial versions of Windows are a better choice as a desktop OS than these consumer ones are, Win 2000 was amazing and still can be.

NUTHIN BUT NET!!!

I think, it's about being FAUST: IN 8, MS was selling its soul to cater to the often not very savvy tablet/special effects gimmick addicts, and also, hardly for the first time, trying to emulate some Apple like " ALL yr devices and everything in them are in the cloud and are ONE! And nobody needs a brain cause you can swipe and pinch! Does that not ROCK?" (NO, it does not rock.) sensibility.

truth be told Yes they did make it easier!!

but this begs the question how would you have made it easier for most users???

I'd have linked an .ISO that installed with your win8 key for people that wanted a clean install or put the update on windows update.

Other than it taking a couple hours to install, it worked fine when going from 8 to 8.1. I have never in my life had an OS take so long to install/upgrade. 7 > 8 was pretty fast.

my PC from 2007 is running 8.1 without problems, I had 8 for almost a year, updated using the app store, only the sound card driver disappeared but, to be fair I had a win 7 driver installed previously with windows 8 (it was the only thing not detected automatically), so it was just a question of downloading the windows 8 driver (from the C-media website) and installing... it's working perfectly right now.

the changes are not huge but all very positive.
