I watched the first half hour or so of the live presentation, it looked pretty interesting. I'm not so sure I'd want it as my desktop UI, but for a tablet, it definitely looks promising.

I would LOVE a good windows tablet. I don't know if it will fly with Android and Apple already well into the fight.. but who knows.

If people can have the same UI on their tablet that they have on their PC (and phone if they own one) then that's a huge selling point as it reduces the learning curve. I know a few people who enjoy iOS but do not like OSX.

If it has full windows support, that will be pretty huge. The new wave a tablets may be nice, but the utility is kind of limited. Can you really use any of them as laptop replacements yet?

Looks promising. If I was going spend $500+ on tablet, it better have Windows x86, and be able to run my existing desktop games and applications. Otherwise it's just an overpriced toy.

I'm not sure you can successfully merge a desktop OS with a portable one. Not yet anyway.

I'm not sure you can successfully merge a desktop OS with a portable one. Not yet anyway.

For better or worse Windows 8 will run on ARM as well as x86 so iOS and Android won't have any advantage in power usage.

Personally I think Ivy Bridge ULV tablets are more interesting than ARM ones since they will deliver vastly superior performance but should still offer great battery life.

The ARM version wouldn't run existing Windows software, so it's almost like an entirely separate platform.

Fact is, this review was done on a tablet with an i5, and app performance will suffer on a lower powered tablet.

Will MS somehow make a seamless desktop/portable OS with Windows 8? Let's just say I'm not hopeful.

Even if all of your old applications work on x86 based tablets, they're not going to be designed for a tablet interface and the experience will suck. The real question is whether or not developers of major programs will make optimizations or design interfaces for tablet use.

My download is almost finished - going to install it on my older laptop first. Get an idea of how it works on slower hardware, as the claim goes, as well as not risk screwing my desktop that I use for important stuff.

I'm going to install this on my main PC to see what it's like to be honest. I know it's going to run brilliant because MS optimized the hell out of it and removed a lot of bloat, but I'm going to try and see if I can run a game or just more intense applications.

My downloaded corrupted around 2 Gb so I have to redownload it. I really hope they open up the TouchPad so it can support this. Honestly, I'd love to have that tablet interface on there. Wowzers.
