does win.8 have a classic mode that looks/performs similar to win.7 or XP??

Is there a difference between the mentioned Win8 Enterprise Edition and the Windows 8 Release Preview iso's?Try it and find out. Install Microsoft Virtual PC, then install the 90-day trial version of Win8 Enterprise Edition in the virtual machine (I haven't tried that combo, I'm using a spare computer instead, but it should work).
LMAO
You still want to use the Enterprise Evaluation. It's a release version of Windows, as opposed to the earlier preview versions. Is there a difference between the mentioned Win8 Enterprise Edition and the Windows 8 Release Preview iso's?
The Enterprise Edition is listed as "This is intended for developers building Windows 8 apps and IT professionals interested in trying Windows 8 Enterprise on behalf of their organization."
Which one should i use as a "personal pc user" just trying to test the version that will be closet to the release version of Win8 ?
LMAO
Although i tried the consumer preview a few weeks back for a few days, i would have to agree that the lack of a start menu in "desktop mode" sucks and Metro REALLY SUCKS on a desktop pc.
And those links people post to the "stardock" Win8 start menu is nice, but i'm not paying Stardock for a start menu after the beta expires.
Problem is, hating the metro interface and avoiding Win8 in favor of Win7 will only put me further behind when i finally do upgrade to Win9 or whatever.
Kinda like people going to Win7 from Winxp. (its a steeper learning curve)
So like it or not, i'd like to evaluate Win8 and use it as much as possible for awhile to familiarize myself.
Just need to know which is the closest version to the soon to be released version of Win8.
THNX for the info. You still want to use the Enterprise Evaluation. It's a release version of Windows, as opposed to the earlier preview versions.
Of course I feel the same and hope Win8 is a colossal failure!I got the pro RTM from dreamspark a few weeks back, i agree with your point about getting familiar with a new OS however i don't think this will fly in the long run.
My crystal ball tells me that WP8 will gain no traction in the mobile space against android and iOS and will likely also fail to unseat the same OS's in the tablet space. As for the desktop arena i anticipate another vista like flop with some backpedaling in windows 9 in an attempt to retain the shrinking desktop market. I don't anticipate having to get used to metro at all.
I could be totally wrong but i don't think so Have to wait and see.
There's a desktop that will run your old applications. You just won't have a start button anymore.
So if you dont have a start menu, what happens when you hit the win key?

You get taken into a full screen "start screen". Hit the Windows key again, and you get taken back to what you were doing.
The start screen works identical to the menu, except your search results are separated by category and application. You also have no more nested folders when you view "all apps".
Actually you can still search for control panel stuff:
It's just, like I said, separated.
