Windows 98SE network adapter woes

The computer at work recently had some issues. I think someone aborted an installation of Verizon Business DSL software (because the service wasn't actually hooked up), which I think led to the vnetsup.vxd, etc. missing files error on bootup. I followed the directions on the Microsoft website to get rid of that by uninstalling everything in the Network control panel and rebooting. That solved the .vxd missing files error, but now there is a yellow exclamation point on my Network adapter in the Device Manager, and it's reporting that it can't load a file (I think it's NDISLP.vxd or something like that, I'm not there now, and I can't remember). Nothing I've tried has helped, so I'm looking for advice on how to get this working so we can used the dial-up until the Verizon service is turned on. Thanks.

The following steps are the standard steps that might help with such or similar Network problems.

Step One: Look at the StartUp and the Windows Services and make sure that there is No residual loading that left behind by the Verizon software.

Step Two: Make sure that the device manger is clean and try again.

Step Three: make sure that the Network Layers are OK and refresh the TCP/P Stack: http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

Step Four: Verify the Network Settings: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify

If none of the above helped, you might need to repair the OS installation.

b]P.S. LOL,:shocked: after writing all of this I realized that I wrote the above process for Win XP while your problem is with Win98. Well may be someone else can use this one.[/b]
