Windows clock always wrong

Everytime I start up my computer, the clock will always display the time from when I last shut down the computer. So, say I shut down my computer at 6:30 pm. When I boot up again three hours later, the clock will still read 6:30 pm. This even happens in hibernate mode. What's wrong with my clock? I have WinXP Home Edition.

Does it matter that this is a laptop?

This is just a guess-

Try replacing your Mobo batteries. Maybe the batteries are running real low - low enough to maintain the current time, but too low to serve as a clock when powered down.

I could be way off here, but it might be worth a shot.

Good luck!

Yeah - I thought about that too.. but this laptop is pretty much brand new. I got it like 2 weeks ago. I would hope that HP wouldn't use dead batteries.

and in the event that your battery is fine and u cant figure out whats going on, try an ntp client. i think there was a free on called automachron. find an ntp server u can use (i use ntp.ucsd.edu). just make sure you set it to adjust the time more than the default (10 mins?).

I realized something else today that came across to be quite odd.

My clock never reached 3:00 pm.

I noticed this while programming today. The clock would read 1:45 pm, continue to go on until about 2:50 pm, then suddenly go back in time and read 1:45 pm again. As of now, it reads 2:07 pm, and hell, it's almost 3 am. right now.

So now I seriously don't know what is going on. I haven't had the chance to check the cmos battery, as I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have a DV1000 if anyone has had experience with this.

I plan to reformat and put xpPro on this laptop this weekend. Maybe that will fix it?

Don't reinstall, exchange your system for a new one since it is only 2 weeks old. Reinstall may viod your warranty or place a call with HP for a possible solution.
