Windows Errors?

My laptop has been acting really strange lately. I have scanned for viruses numerous times, and I've done everything I see fit. It will randomly have the blue screen saying "Microsoft Windows has recovered from a serious error, and needs to reboot." Should i re-install the operating system? It says it's a hardware error, but I'm not sure which CD to use that came with my HP DV 5000. I've sent many error reports to windows, but it says the problem is unknown.



PS- I'm not very computer-savvy.

Assuming that you are using Windows XP, you can view more detailed information about the problems in the "event viewer"

start=>programs=>adminstrative tools=>event viewer
double click on each of the catagories (e.g. "system" and scroll down looking for red circles with white crosses. These are error messages. Double click on the error message to read the details. If you get a lot of messages cause by the same application and that application seems to be the cause of the rebooting, consider reinstalling, or completely removing the application. Other problems may be network related, videocard related etc which may mean you have to reconfigure the network, or reinstall drivers for other hardware.

A lot of my friends and co-waorkers are getting this this week, must be some new worm going around or maybe the heatwave in NYC is killing HDs.
