windows fails to load, shuts down system

system was working fine for about a year until it started failing to boot. going back to an old 'restore point' with windows seemed to help the problem, but now it's back.

basically, the computer gets through post, and gets to the windows loading screen, but then the computer turns off completely. it restarts briefly (only a few seconds), but then shuts down for good.
the system boots reliably into safe mode (as long as the mobo is reset after failure), but so far going back to 'restore points' has not helped as it did before. also, trying to load safe mode with networking fails.

given the circumstances, i guess it's time for a windows reinstall. anyone have any thoughts to the contrary?

yh, ur right, i say re-install windows,(i reintsalled it 3 times, due to problems), performance will be much better, but gettin all updates, and everything else, took me a long time....about 3 hours to be honest.

If you can boot in safe mode, then it's just an issue with finding the software that is causing the problem and removing it. It's up to you if you want to reinstall everything or look in MSCONFIG to disable software and services until you find the issue.
