Hey guys,

Is there any alternatives to FDISK? My parents arent' very computer savvy and I was wondering if there were any programs you could extract onto a start disk that would destroy all information on a hard disk.

Any suggestions?

Killdisk is one of I'm sure, many out there. They'll have to make a few choices though. Maybe you could walk them through it on the phone? I'm assuming there is some distance between where you live.

I poked around a little at the site. It can be run in autoexecute mode.

What about the W2K and XP partition manager? It's pretty easy (you could talk them through it over the phone) and they just need to boot from the W2K/XP CD.

FDISK is complicated? PLEASE.

Formatting will not "destroy all information" on a disk. The best solution for that would be Derek's Boot and Nuke.

You are an embarassment to comp USA. I want the information removed, and FDISK is complicated to people that have never used a computer before jerk.

And fdisk is not a formatting tool anyway. It is a partitioning tool. There are a number of freeware tools for eliminating data on a hard drive.

And while I know where you people are coming from in addressing a certain poster, I do agree that fdisk is pretty simple, especially if they will have guidance over the phone. And if they screw it up, what's the worst that could happen? Loose the data on the hd? lol

I'd be afraid of handing a auto-boot kill disk to anyone never mind my parents. You wouldn't be planning a practical joke would you OP? That said I have written simple directions on how to reformat an HD and reinstall windows... perhaps you should do the same? I'd also recommend something from here.
