I need to connect to my ftp from school and they only way that I have found you can do this is with the FTP Dos program that is built into windows. Does anybody know to I can connect to my ftp when lets just say my address is 255.255.255.255 and it is running on port 123? I don't know how to specify the port number.

I can't have it run on port 21 because I have analogx proxy running on that port and I can't change the settings.

I can't use IE because they have a program on there that blocks out FTP requests and that doesn't work. I have to use the DOS FTP program (Start>Run>type FTP)

that's one thing that i could never seem to figure out even though it's so simple. i assumed it was either a switch or a colon but neither of them worked so i just gave up because it wasn't too important to me. but yes, thanks man!

Our server was at my HS was an NT4 Server running Novell, and the clients were all NT4Wrk/NetWare. We got a box with the icons to the programs for the classes we were registered in. We didn't have physical access to the local hard drive and we didn't have a start menu bar. Heres what we did:

We opened IE and went File --> Open We would type in "C:\winnt\explorer.exe" and check the "Open as web folder" box. That would load for us the explorer bar, and thus, access to the start menu. Of course our admin had disabled RUN, but not MS-DOS Prompt. We would then use the Command Prompt to use net send and some other fun things. Our school had a gaming room for the Friday Afternoon Gaming Club; what we did that was really Elite was shared the directories that had all of our games in them (from the gaming computers, locally). The next step was to use the Above mentioned work-around, and used NETUSE Z: //whatever/blahblah. Then we created HTML files that had links to "unrealtournament.exe", etc. Then we loaded up the HTML files in IE, and clicked the links, and chose "run from current location" and that would load up our games across a network. We each used different remote computers, and we had massive LAN's.

Since our ADMIN decided we didn't really need "right click" in IE5, we had to figure out a workaround also to allow us to have custom backgrounds.....consider it done. Took myself and a few friends about 3 classes to get it. It's funny that when they installed the OS's on our comps, they installed a copy of IE5 over IE3 that came with NT4. They didn't remove IE3. So we created HTML docs (in frontpage), inserted the pictures via "http://blahblahblah" then we would click preview. By some fluke, it would load up IE3 and not IE5, and IE3 didn't have right click restrictions in place. /me right-clicks, hits "set as wallpaper" and now, I am an elite wallpaper-haver....

MUAHAHAHAHAHA.
Toy around with your access restrictions at school.
I used to work at a Staples, and they had more restrictions in place than I had ever seen. I got a workaround to get on the internet, any site I wanted, and write a batch file to deltree their whole hard drive upon shutdown. Too bad I never ran it. Sometimes, I kick myself.

Ryan.

Circumventing secrurity measures put in place by administration can get you in trouble with the school and hopefully the law. Its a bad idea and if you do it I hope you get caught and not only expelled but prosecuted

I would agree....I used to work for a university network, and I created images that were very restictive. Pretty much one or two icons on the desktop and thats it. No right click, hide drives, no shut down, no lock, etc. Before these images were created our daily work was dominated by running around reimaging machines that people had screwed up by installing everything under the sun.

After the restrictive images, we rarely have to reimage the machines, which equates to more computer availability for the users.

so are you against all circumvention technologies in general? even ones that are used in an attempt to strenghten security? i'm not talking about little kiddie stuff like that, i mean actually trying to find security holes in networks and things of that nature. of course i would never do anything like this unless i was given permission or i'm testing my own private network.

Yeah well, that was the 1st year the network had been in place, and we were the first Networking ROP class out of our school, so even though we weren't asked to find workarounds, they were pretty glad we did, because you can bet that the classes now don't have the ability to use the workarounds that we did.

Are you serious?

BuudWeizErr if you had done that on my network, grateful or not, I would have done my best to see that you got what you deserved. And that wouldnt be a thank you.

My response was less than adequate. I support and use several tools to help me secure networks. But I no longer use them without permission. I have done all of this in the past and if I had known how much it affects peoples lives I would probably have not done it. Now that I get to worry whenever I see a new bugtraq email, I try to be much nicer to the admins.
