Windows "Hangs"

Right now I have a K8t neo board with a seasonic 400 watt powersupply, Mushkin pc 3500 512 dimms lvl black 2. Raptor 36 gig 10000 RPM Drive, Athlon 64 3200+, AIW 9800 Pro 128, and a Plextor CDRW. Could anyone know why it does this? it takes like 30 minutes for windows to load into the desktop from the point where it says "windows starting".

Uh... hard to say without more info about what's happening.

Was it always like this? Did the install go smoothly?

Did you change something recently? Anything?

Does it work better in safe mode?

Is your performance OK once it boots?

When it boots up, try looking around in Device Manager to see if the hardware configuration looks alright. Maybe it's confused about what you have and trying to find drivers for nonexistent hardware.

This could also be a virus or other software infestation -- see if anything suspicious is running, or if there are weird items in any of your startup locations (run "msconfig" to see what's being loaded at bootup). Run Ad-Aware and Spybot, and some sort of AV program over it. And scan and defrag your hard disk while you're at it.

Yes, yes, I have a guess of what's happening with your machine. I've seen a worm (as you'll see, it's something like that, a crossover with spyware), that slows down the comp. A friend has had it, on a P4 3GHz with 1GB DDR, and the thing slowed it down, it took away like 99% of the machine's performance, so his "Mercedes Class" machine was running like my old 486, only with WInXP on it. I'd say You should run an antivirus and some spyware killer, Ad-Aware or something like that...

I found out what the problem was. My promis SATA card that came with the mother board was doing wierd crap so I put in my sillicon image card that came with my raptor 36 gig and it now works perfectly. However what would happen on my promise is the hardrive would respin all the time in windows and make windows hang for freaking hours, plus it took forever to load into windows. Anyone know why this is?
