In for one XP MCE 2005 with Vista Home Premium upgrade. I couldn't resist on the last day of free shipping with the paypal code. Also, I haven't used the 20 off of 50 paypal promotion yet either. Hopefully it works out and this is only 90 bucks...

Depending on your needs, you could get XP Home upgrade version from Office Depot for $29.99 AR here and send for the free Vista upgrade (shipping of about $10 and tax in 46 states added) from here.

I just purchased 2 copies of XP Pro with the upgrade coupons. So, the coupons is for the upgrade and not a complete OEM install of Vista?

Moduslink's Vista Upgrade site has had numerous isthues...
Call them at 800-817-5602 and let 'em know you'd like to get yer upgrade process started.
They won't be shipping these upgrades 'till Jan. 30 at the earliest so we really don't know what we'll be getting. 'cept which version. I suspect OEM is what we'll get.

XP Pro --> Vista Business: FREE + tax (where applicable) + s/h
XP Pro x64 --> Vista ???: FREE (?) + tax (where applicable) + s/h

Estimates are s/h to be $10-$20.

There is no 100% confirmation on if you need to buy a computer system, piece of hardware, or simply the OS itself, to qualify. General concensus is you only need to buy the OS itself.

EDIT: If you plan to want to go to Vista Home Premium, it's cheaper to buy MCE 2005, since the upgrade is essentially free.

Thanks for the advice! Great info.

Has anybody received their Vista upgrade yet? The only thing the moduslink site
says about my order status is that my COA is confirmed.

For those that have recieved their upgrade.....does this deactivate the Windows XP code so that you cant recieve future updates or anything like that? Im wondering because what if I do the coupon and then load Vista...and then decide I dont want to use it yet until it's cleaned up and want to put XP back on. Is this possible? Id just hate to redeem my coupon and load Vista, only to find out that my XP key is not longer usable if I decide to go back to it.

Thanks guys.

I don't have a definitive answer, but I would think it would be possible. It might require
a phone call to MS if the activiation is denied. Just make sure you tell them that you are
not using Vista and XP at the same time.

I did this when CUSA had a similar deal. Vista basic has since arrived. Windows 2000 is a legitimate upgrade path to Vista btw.

Forgive me for bumping an old thread (better than starting a new one, right?), but for those of you that mailed in the upgrade, how long did it take? I'm going on 3-4 weeks without a shipping confirmation.

Thanks,
CK

Feedback I have gotten from Modus is that it will probably be late March before most are shipped out. Even those who sent in their stuff mid-Jan like me. Be patient. I'm pretty sure it will get here eventually...

3 weeks is pretty crazy. Please let us know when you actually receive it.

I'm not one of the people who regularly bashes MS, but honestly, the darn thing should just be downloadable.

Why only offer some copies of Vista as downloadable?

I also just received an email that my order has been shipped. I submitted my coupon the
very first week of January. It is a good thing I am in no hurry for Vista!

My coupon states that it is only valid with the purchase of a system preloaded with windows XP and I was denied since I couldnt supply a receipt stating such. Anyone else encounter this problem and if so how did you work around it?

Yes, that is what I used. The invoice from newegg. Well, I supplied the packing list. Did you just mail it all in? I utilized the email method and sent them scans of all the related document.

I did the online method except I snail mailed the hard copy stuff. I read all the instructions and doublechecked that
I filled eveything out correctly. Newegg states that their WinXP uprgrade path is vaild so I would put their the customer
service to the test.
