Windows Installation Problems

Hi all,
the hardware has come through donation and are secondhand.it worked very well for a year and a half. but now i am getting the errors.

the scenario is such that
1)I try installing an os.
2)i select the partition and install the os
3)after the system files copies and boots
BAAM!!
windows 2000 - cannot find ntfs.sys error
winxp - it hangs at ramdisk.sys cannot be found on the cd
windows media center - it hangs at ramdisk.sys cannot be found on the cd
windows 2003 server - blue screen after restart.

this machine is for a non profit organization and have discounted licensing of microsoft os so i can try these.

the hardware on it is
amd athlon 2400+ clocked at 2.00ghz fsb 266mghz
1gb ram 33mhgz or 512mb ram 266mghz
80gb hdd or 160gb hdd
nvdia fx 6200 256 mb graphics card
A7N8X-VM with integrated mx 4400 card

i use the agp card on it.

also in the bios i see the processor clocked at 333mhz

Hi,

Have you got another IDE cable you could try?
If that doesn't do it,
Have you got a spare hdd to try?

this problem ive had before, there are 4 system disks you need for win 2000. find them and put them onto floppy and you should be fine..

ya i tried changing the ide cable with both the 80 gb and 160 gb.
all the time deleting the partition and doing a fresh installation.. still no solution.
even if it installs it runs proper but freezes after few days.

Could you run a memtest

but it can damage the hardware if it already has problems.
can thr be a problem with a psu or the processor?

also i forgot to mention that when i put in the 512mbram there is no display but the fans keep whirring

1 your 512 is dead most likey or you have it in wrong slot.

none of this would inflict with the install..

have you used the 4 floppy disk like i said?

the 512 works fine . i had it tested on another machine. the 4 floppy u mentioned are they the system restore disk??

no they carry 4 seperate files that isnt on the .iso disk.

Can't see how memtest will damage anything that isn't already damaged.

Anyway, tell us how it goes

try setting the fsb on the cpu at 266 in the bios. I had this happen one time, crappy ram would givee me bluescreens after a couple days. ram tested fine with memtest.

the problem is i cannot find a setting in the bios to change the fsb
or find a jumper setting on the mobo to change the setting

i am going to try the floppy option and memtest as soon as i get my hands on floppies (tough find some)

also what are the chances on getting a motherboard and cpu which will let me keep the other components(ram,agp card and ide hard disk)

just keep your eye out in the fs section you can easily go s754 with what you have.

or newegg.com has some s754 mobo's and cpus still just remember to get a new hsf that will fit.

you can go s939 aswel but you would prolly go into a big bottleneck.
