The Office Max in Anaheim, CA is having the upgrade and the full version of Windows ME for 50% during the store closing sale. I don't know if the other store have any more but the Anaheim one has tons left. The full version is for $89.50 and the upgrade is for $45. The upgrade is not the limited time promotional one.
So hurry if you need it. By the way, they got got Turbo Tax Basic for 60% off at $7.98. The MacIntax Deluxe for $15.98. The others is out I think.

You're right Purvin: WindowsME stinks. Its just bill gates trying to make you do things the way he wants you to. you couldn't pay me 15 dollars to put it on my machine. I bought it for 40 dollars and was happy to throw it in the trash!!:disgust:

WinME may be suck on some issues but it saved me alot of time on my laptop when the install of my Kensington mouse software messed up.

Restore was worth it at that time!

ME is aweful...I actually went back to Win98SE (the first time I've EVER done that). WinME wasn't ready for primetime when it was released, and MS isn't telling hardware manufacturers what to do with their drivers, so hardware support is awful.

Regardless of what you guys may think of ME, if you can get it cheap you can make a killing on Egay. They sell really well, as does 98 Se.

I've never heard so much Windows ME bashing in one place before I use it and it runs flawlessly.. No problems, no crashes, nothing.. I like it, my friends like it.. What is so bad about it?

I guess I've been lucky then.. What's wrong with upgrading your drivers to latest versions anyway?

ME sucks, it's slow, it's bloated, it pretends to hide DOS, etc. This is a good deal though. =)

WinMe certainly isn't for everybody. That said, I really like it even tho I run 98se. For people who don't know so much about computers and don't have someone near them for tech help it can be the best thing to use. They can experiment/screw up and just use the "restore" feature if things go wrong. The error messages are also a little more helpful in ME. Much better than having your friends/relatives screw things up, try to fix it on their own, then call you when things are totally out of control!

I never had any problem with ME. Matter of facts, I had less problem with it then Windows 98 or Windows 2000. As for the drivers, most of the Windows 98 Drivers works well with it. Maybe not everyone knows what they are doing. JK!!.

I am really surprised with the bad attitude on this board regarding Microsofts fine products. Sure they suck, thats not what I meant, but paying for them? Now thats weird.

In my opinion, WinME is fine as long as you clean-install it and have enough memory (128MB or more).

I have experienced a lot of headaches when I installed it over Win95/98.

I'm an MCSE and to network consulting/tech support for a national ISP. Here's the problems I've observed with WIndows ME:

1) It adds a new PCI->USB driver that is NOT compatible with a lot of USB hardware (especially items from HP and Canon). In order to get them to work, you may have to go back to a two year old version of the USB bus drivers, which will pretty much screw up any special power saving features, etc.
2) Drivers have to be totally rewritten for ME for some reason. Win98 drivers will work, but they may cause occasional blue screens (especially video and video capture devices). If your hardware drivers aren't specifically for ME and no new drivers are available, you may just have to live with the crashes.
3) Networking (especially with a peer-peer network) is terrible to set up. For some reason, it can take up to 15 minutes (!) for shared resources to appear in "My Network Places". On an NT network, that's normal, but that's a bit rediculous. This can eat up a whole day of troubleshooting for people that don't know this
4) It adds "shortcuts" to shared folders in My Network Places. Problem is, it never refreshes these shortcuts. Doubleclick on a shortcut that isn't available, and your machine may hang for up to 3 minutes as it tries to find the missing resource. Blech....

There are a lot of others. People like that "registry restore" feature, but there are a dozen shareware programs that do the same thing. For my money, Win98 SE is the most stable and compatible home user OS available.

Sure, giving Microsoft and Bill Gates support and MORE money sounds great, but Ive got a better plan. How about I give you the finger...

No no no, just kidding, a little Matrix slip. Actually you could save your money by finding a site online that will let you "try" winME before you "buy", and then just never stop trying it.... ;D Nothing wrong with super softwarez.

Come on! Lighting up guys. I posted it a a good deal not to bash in Microsoft. If Microsoft and Bill Gates are not so great why are all of you guys using their products? The point of this post is that the OM has it for 50% not as to whether you like it or not. Of course every user will have problem with any software. Many will like and many won't, that's life.
I wonder if all of our complaints will improve the product any. You all should know this by now. I guess most of you guys have not installed the SP1 yet for ME.

The problems are mostly with IE5.5
Those who like to pay half price, this post is for you.
Those who do not like ME, I am sorry to hear that. It can only get better.
