I second that.

6.4 has MUCH less bloat than 9 and most likely 10.

A 100% agree with this statement.

WMP 6.4 is the second best program ever written by microsoft.

The best of course, is notepad

the old dos edit is my third favorite

Hey Z80, it works different than you might think. What I did was partition my 35 Gig Raptor into 10 and 25 gig partitions (C:, and D). When you image the C: (where the OS resides) the image file is only the size of the occupied space. After a fresh install, all drivers loaded, tweaks in place, and complete stableness, I have never seen an image file size for my system over 3 gig. You can also compress the image size (but I never have). After that just save the image to the D: partition so that whenever the C: drive bites the dust, you can recover it from D: in minutes. It has saved me hours of re-installation time and works absolutely perfectly.....

From me:

How did you have me associating beta with free Larry? You're a MORON Larry!

Port, add-on, use...what's the difference...Did I say you were a MORON Larry?

Gee whiz Larry, why don't you use your creative abilty and work on something very hard all your life and have someone steal it away from you...I bet you would like that, huh ...Moron?

mucker

You still don't even know what beta software means, do you?

I have a feeling you don't, because instead of replying with the answer, you could only resort to personal insults. What does that say about the intellect of that person?

Btw, tell me again, how do you "port" hardware?

Thanks for the heads up Neo...I'll try it.......there is a lot of very good beta software out today. Beta is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Much (not all) of the beta released today is better than it's predecessor.

PS. How does someone stealing from me, have anything to do whatsoever with what this thread is discussing? I'm kind of curious how that got thrown into the mix suddenly.

I don't have to explain beta, blah, blah, blah anything to you Larryboy. You were the one that started the attack on me (payback's are a ah heck aren't they). I was just giving my opinion, and then came along your sorryazz snide remarks against me.

Good call, SgtZulu. That's one of the reasons that I haven't installed any version of WMP past the 6.4 that W2K ships with either.

Truthfully, WMP 10 is going to be MS's attempt to take over and monopolize the music-download market, they are launching their own music-download service like iTunes and Rhapsody. Integrating WMP with Windows just gives them a bigger and more unfair competitive advantage, due to their illegal monopoly on desktop OSes.

Btw, to those that said that WMP has always been free and will always be free - consider that MS is no longer making IE upgrades "free" - you will have to buy a new OS to get the newer version. I have no doubt that should WMP corner the market enough, that MS will do likewise with it. Argueably, both WMP and IE are not "free", in any sense of the word.

From me:

That's the biggest load of crap I have read..LOL..DRM...geez you actually have to pay the creator of the product some money, c'mon moron!....how stupid do you think people are...LOL...monopolize the market, blah, blah....LOL. What has Microsoft done to you that you are so bitter? Get over your rebel-without a clue attitude.....I have used the following Microsoft OS's DOS, Windows 3.1, Win95, Win98, WinMe, and WinXP. I have paid MS a total of about $540 in the last 16 years. I would consider that a HOT DEAL....

$540? What planet are you from? They have had a lot of other things they've done aside from just OS's that I'm sure you've taken part in (All the Offices, of which the current professional runs for nearly the price that you're saying you've paid in total in the last 16 years, just as an example). Might wanna check your receipts again... could've gotten burned and not even realized it.....

Edit:

BTW, the DRM stuff does suck because most the time you have to pay to watch or listen to whatever the media is that you're trying to get and it's only for a limited time (90 days most the time). After that, you have to pay for the viewing rights again. I don't like it at all, cuz a few of my files are now inaccessible because I don't wanna have to fork out the money to see and listen to it all over again. It'll end up being the same price, if not more, than what I could have gotten the stuff for at the store. It's very disappointing to me.

MS can Kiss my Ass, with their intrusive DRM. Don't use this, small print reads everytime u see a flick it adds it to a DB on your comp and everytime you watch a DVD with this, the DB is transferred to some MS service along with your system information.

Chris, I am glad you know my computing habits so well, did I say I bought any other MS products, if so tell me where those receipts are. How are you so sure I've partaken in any other MS products, you haven't a clue do you, don't insult me please??? I use Corel Office Pro and a myriad of other vendors. Truth is Microsoft makes very good software, and you know it. If I choose to use whatever of their products, it will be worth the price of admission for me.

As far as DRM, it is like evrything else in the world. If you want to use something, you pay for it. If it is too expensive, get another job or live without, above all, guys like you are nothing but rebel-without-a-clue whiners period........

Artists make a pittance (sp?) from CD sales. The music industry is fighting digital media sharing/pirating because it takes money out of their coffers. Individual artists make the vast majority of their money from touring (concert tickets, merchandise, etc), so the more people that hear their music and then pay to come to their shows, the better. When people download music they would normally not have bought and then end up going to see the act live, it's a very good situation for the artists. Music sharing/piracy only hurts huge music corporations.

However, I do urge everybody to buy CD's from small labels if you download a cd and find that it's good. Small labels are very important as many acts that would never have found a voice with the mega labels, have found success through small, or independent labels.

P.S. Metallica was an exception on how much they made for each CD sold. For some reason, their contract gave them $4 for every CD sold, compared to 25 cents or less for most other artists. And on top of that, they filled their CD's with crap, except for maybe the one radio single, and waited for the money to roll in. They didn't really have to tour with a contract like that. No wonder they wanted Napster shut down! I still hate you Metallica!

If WMP10 has even more DRM junk, think it'll be hard to remove WMP when future Win OS's install WMP10?

Got this about two weeks ago.. you're a bit late on this thread...
It crashes a lot less than WMP9, but it often hangs for about 5-10 seconds before starting up a file.

I'm just sayin' I don't like some of the ways they deal with DRM. I was just acting like an @$$ because I had a hard day... your view is yours and mine is mine, I respect yours and I expect you to do the same with mine.

I also wasn't complaining about the cost of the other products like Office, I was just stating that they were out there. I have no problem paying for those products (I have Office Professional 2003), as I feel they are worth it as well.
