Howdy !

I was wondering if any of you have been experiencing problems with their sound in Windows Mil. Ed. ??

I have a SounBlaster AWE64 soundcard and have been experiencing the following problem :

Sometimes windows starts up normally with sound(windows intro) and all other sounds, like ICQ, WinAmp, Unreal Tournament, CD playback work just fine. But after receiving some messages on ICQ and/or playing a CD or a MP3, I dont have any sound anymore. It just stops making noise !!!!!!!!!!!
Other times it can start up and there just isnt any sound right from the very start windows loads up.

No conflicts or whatever are reported in Windows System.

Any ideas what might be the problem guys ?????

How much RAM does your system have, and what's your processor speed? I know when I was running 16MB of RAM and a 133MHZ processor, the sound would sometimes become "too much" and stop. Looking at the mixer panel revealed that it had "frozen" at a certain level. After I upgraded to 48MB of RAM the problem stopped. It was even better after I dumped my stupid TeleSOUND 3D card and got a real one (SB Live!).

I have a similiar problam to yours also. Sometimes I find after all programs are loaded and running, somewhere after using the computer for a few minutes, I find the main volume lowers itself! I have no idea how this happens but, it does. My computer is a pentium III 600 with 256mb of SDRAM. So processing power and amount of RAM isnt a problem.

AHA !!!!

Well I got a everything running on a unoverclocked Celeron 533Mhz with 112MB of memory, not very fast but enough to run a couple of progs all together.

Wnied, I have never looked in the sound panel, but I might just get the same problem you get, that the sound volume gets lowered !!!

Anybody know who or what does this ?????

I had the same problem, but for me the volume always lowered itself when I was using Yahoo Messenger (POS!). It didn't do when i was using any other prog.

I've got a PII300 @ 345, 128Mb, SBLive and that's fast enough to play sounds...
