I just built my new system and while installing the drivers for my d-link ethernet card I encountered some issues with my registry. It is now functioning but I get the following message when I boot up:
---------------------------------------------
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows ora windows application

The Windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists

If you deleted this file on purpose, try unistalling the associated application using its uninstaller setup program

If you still want to use the application associated with this device, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file

VNETSUP.VXD
VREDIR.VXD
DFS.VXD
--------------------------------------------

Then when windows startsa box pops up saying:
--------------------------------------------
unable to load the dynamic link library

MSNP32.DLL
--------------------------------------------

Please I need help with this, thank you in advanced!

If you have a Windows Upgrade CD, pop it in and reinstall windows without erasing your hard drive - this usually fixes just about any registry or driver file problem you'll have.

If you can't do that... Does your card function properly, and are you able to run your computer error-free after this? If so, then open up your System.ini and Config.sys files in Notepad and just look through them. Check for any possible duplicated commands, or any commands that load the files that are causing these errors. If you find any of these, first save the system file as a different name, such as Systemini.txt or Configsys.txt, and then make the changes. Reboot. If the problems have gone away and you are able to proceed normally without any abnormal instability or errors, then you have successfully cured your computer. If you get problems, though, boot into dos (hold down F8 when your computer is about to start loading Windows and choose Command Prompt), and rename the old file back to System.ini or Config.sys after you've deleted the changed files. Rebooting after that should get you back to where you started. And then come back here and tell us the news

insert your win98 cd,

go to start, progs, access., sys tools, system info, tools, system file checker,

one at a time, extract the three files not seen prior to the desktop by entering them in the "extract one file..." box (the lower one),

on the next screen, tell it to restore from d:\win98 (your win98 cd),

and restore to c:\windows

this will restore the first three files.

now, to get rid of the msnp32 error...

rebuild your whole stack in network neighborhood:

remove client for microsoft networks in network neighborhood properties, power down, reboot, then add client for ms networks. should do the trick.

what are your connections? are you on a network? do you have cable access?
